Google Docs Review

Editors' Review by the Project Collaboration Software Review Team

Designed for businesses of all sizes, Google Docs works as a document and project collaboration solution for several people or multiple teams at all once. With Google Docs, you can easily collaborate, share, edit, chat and comment across several files in real-time. No installation is required as it’s a cloud-based application. Other than standard documents, you can also make use of a range of templates and charts as well.

Anybody who has a Google account is open to not only Google Docs but also the various other applications and features found in Google Suite. This includes being able to use Gmail, Google Slides and Google Drive. When small businesses or large enterprises need an all-in-one intuitive platform to share information across different channels and collaborate on projects, Google Suite is one of the top contenders.

Google Docs Features

Since Google Docs is integrated within Google Suite, you can have additional features due to its other functionalities. This includes the ability to have a substantial storage space with Google Drive for all your documents, as well as:

Document collaboration

This feature lets you see any changes or edits done by any member of your team in the document. It’s also quite easy on the eyes as Google Docs differentiates the users with unique color identification. You can now figure out who changed what and when based on the colors that have been assigned to your team members.

Additionally, as you work in real-time, you can also communicate with other people through the pop-out chat on the right side of the screen. If there’s a specific part of the file that you wish to comment on, the rest of the team can easily be informed.

File type agnostic

If your team members upload documents from different sources and therefore have different file types, you don’t have to worry about converting them into readable .docx. Google Docs lets you import your documents to the cloud with ease. This makes them instantly editable, allowing users to work on it as soon as possible. Formats include .docx, .pdf, .odt, .rtf, .txt and .html.

Unlimited revision history

If you need to backtrack the progress of your document, Google Docs has an unlimited revision history. This allows you to see which parts have been changed or crossed out entirely and which user made the said change. This beats the archaic method of saving different files just to keep some changes intact, as an older version can always be recovered.

Offline editing

Not everybody has access to the internet at all times. To combat this problem, Google Docs lets you make documents available for offline editing. When you’ve connected to the internet again, the docs are immediately updated to fit what you’ve changed when you were editing offline.

Google Docs Benefits

The top benefits of Google Docs include:

Accessible solution

Google Suite has provided businesses and enterprises with an accessible solution where team members are given an easy-to-understand interface and reliable features. Everybody can access important documents and significant files. Even if they don’t have internet connection or are not available during a period of time, they can still track the revisions made and offer changes to the document. This ensures that everybody stays on the same page and can follow through with the project’s progress.

Collaborative platform

Google Docs is a collaborative platform, which means everybody is given the chance to provide his or her opinions and revisions on an important project. This allows businesses to remain flexible and scalable in terms of the workflow through the ability to suggest changes or comment on a document. As such, teamwork is highly emphasized with this solution. People can review, accept or reject certain changes related to the document or file.

Instant saving

One of the worst things businesses can experience is losing valuable information in the blink of an eye. With Google Docs, you don’t have to worry about such a thing happening. Since this application is cloud-based, any changes you’ve made or any work you’ve done is instantly saved. There is no need to constantly press the save button as Google Docs automatically saves your progress. This reduces the stress team members normally experience on a daily basis should a crash occur.

Google Docs Pricing

If you want to try Google Docs in its full functionality, then make use of Google Suite’s exclusive 14-day free trial. The free version allows you to check and see if the features are up to your standards and if it fits the style of business you have. Once your free trial finishes, you are then given the option to choose between three pricing plans: Basic, Business and Enterprise. They offer scalability in its features at drastically different prices.

The first pricing plan, Basic, is a professional office suite with 30 GB storage. It’s priced at $4.20 per month—a promotional price lasting until April 2, 2020. With this subscription plan, you can create a Drive with 30 GB of storage space and upload all important documents and information to the cloud. You can also access them wherever and whenever regardless of what devices you use. Additional features include Gmail integration, voice and video conferencing, secure team messaging and shared calendars. These tools are shared across the three pricing platforms.

The next pricing plan is Business whose price ranges at $10.20 per month. It was originally priced at $12 but Google has discounted it for a limited period of time. This pricing plan lets you create spreadsheets, presentations and documents within unlimited online storage (or 1 TB per user if you have fewer than five users). Additionally, you can also have a low-code application development environment where you can create applications for your business. This comes with built-in templates, drag-and-drop UI editors and declarative data modelling.

Lastly, Google Suite offers the Enterprise plan which is priced at $25 per month. It’s a premium office suite with advanced features and functionalities. It has all the tools previously mentioned in the first two pricing plans. But with Enterprise, you have additional features that are catered for advanced management and control over your business. These additional tools include Cloud Identity Premium, 24/7 support, security and administration controls and eDiscovery for emails, chats and files.

Conclusion

Overall, Google Docs allows people to stay connected and provide contributions to their shared documents. Users don’t have to go through the tedious process of appointments or meetings just to stay on the same page. With Google Docs, you can literally stay on the same page with your entire team and watch each other’s changes or edits happen right in front of your eyes. No unnecessary effort or time is wasted on meeting up physically. Instead, not only can you stay connected and contribute to your projects, you can also communicate with your team as you work. As a result, Google Docs’ features and tools can be highly efficient and purposeful in ensuring project collaboration has been made easier.

"Documentary Management and Flexible Edition Software"

What do you like about Google Docs?

For me, this is one of the best editing software and building documents either for personal use or to share with others. Very simple in use, it intuitively allows to save my documents in PDF , docx (...) and allows my interlocutors to easily be able to open them and this, even if they use other software of the same type. It has all the functions of some paid software while it is completely free and usable with a simple Google account. The files are easily accessible in the "cloud" from wherever I stand in the world and it is easy to download them on the storage of our choice (pc, USB drive...). The "History" feature has a very convenient side, as it saves all the changes made and dates of changes, making it easy to find them and keep track of it.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

This is software whose use requires a Google account. It will then be necessary to create a Google mailbox, for those who already use another provider for their mailbox. The layout versus the desktop version is altered. The addition of comments for teamwork needs to be improved because we lose the name of the person who issues them, even ours. So you should remember to add your name in the text of each comment before forgetting them.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

Very easy to use, classification of documents alphabetically or otherwise according to preference. A document search system is available, it allows simultaneous modification of documents for several users. And is available on android. It is easy to write an assignment as a team, since we can all write in the document at the same time. In addition, it is identical to Microsoft Word, it corrects mistakes and we can make the same modifications.

"An Efficient and Productive Tool."

What do you like about Google Docs?

A remarkable attribute that I like is its seamless real-time collaboration functionality. This is through instant updates and modifications and good synchronization. The user interface of Google Docs is characterized by god layout, good design and navigation. In conclusion, I like its integration with Google Drive since this enables me to access my documents from any internet connected device.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

There are a few aspects that I find less appealing. To begin with, is the limited offline access: while it offers seamless collaboration online, the inability to access documents offline can be a hindrance, especially, in situations where internet connectivity is unreliable or unavailable. Lastly, the formatting challenges: although it provides a comprehensive set of formatting options, there can be challenges when it comes to more advanced formatting requirements.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I have been using it for document sharing, working on team-oriented projects and generally for collaborative work and document management. It helped me solve the problem of the need to merge different versions of the document manually by streamlining the entire collaboration process. Lastly, it has solved the problem of reducing the risk of version confusion and minimizing the time spent on managing file attachments through easy document sharing.

""Excellent tool for text projects in the cloud with great collaboration and organization.""

What do you like about Google Docs?

I like Google Docs because basically all the work functions are directly from the cloud.

It offers excellent working characteristics that allow carrying out any written document with characteristics similar to those of MS Word.

Directly from my computer I can add images. The ease of adding job charts, tables, notes for pages and a host of insertion features.

Excellent synchronization with the G-Suite, especially with Google Drive for the storage and automatic storage of each of the characteristics of my work project.

It is a very useful tool and in real time one or more people can do intervention with the option to edit the project that is carried out. Personally, it has been a great support for the work team so that everyone can add to verify the work and even the modifications if this is necessary.

It gives me options of formats to configure my style of work according to each one of the needs, I can make changes of sources, size, colors, the insertion of tabs and bullets for the paragraphs of works.

Very useful tool to check the spelling of my project, sometimes I may not be aware of any grammatical or orthographic error, Google Docs allows me to review automatically and with quick commands from my roof (Contrl + Alt + X) .

The compatibility of this tool allows me to use it from simultaneous devices, as well as mobile devices (phone, tablet) with only and synchronize it with my Gmail account.

"easy edition and document handling"

What do you like about Google Docs?

I like it because it is very easy, convenient and useful when using all its functions as the changes are saved automatically without having to worry about the information that could be lost if you get to have an accident for not having saved the information in the course of the writing of the documents since while it is detecting new information it is automatically saved. With this application you can create any type of documents such as word files, presentations or spreadsheets and all these functions can be done for free.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

The only thing I have found negative in Google Docs is that if it is not your preference to use Gmail email accounts you will not be able to access all these benefits that this program offers you since a Gmail account is necessary.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I have used Googles Docs for multiple functions and some of them have been the creation of labels and badges for their printing and they make it very easy to use since it gives me many options for editing and personalization and I like to use it also since I can use it from a browser or similarly download the application on a phone or tablet to always have the information at any time or in any place so do not have access to the internet

"Most reliable option for online Docs "

What do you like about Google Docs?

Google Docs is the tool that I use to take notes or write reminders that I must always be available. Almost everyone has a Gmail account, and it's free and easy to set up one if you don't have one. Google doc also has a content formatting panel that allows you to customize the content and organize it the way I want to use font styles, styles of alignment, and other features.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

Google Docs ' most interesting feature is also the inconvenience of this product, it works only online. If there's no internet, it won't work ; even if the internet suddenly goes down, it will stop typing.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

One of the biggest advantages I got with Google Docs is that thanks to its platform, I managed to expand the number of customers in different latitudes.

"Preparation of documents in the cloud."

What do you like about Google Docs?

I love Google Docs the ease of use of this great tool and that it is totally free.
This great platform allows access to several users to the same document and everyone can make an issue without any problem appearing the author of this as owner. It is very useful because each person can reflect their ideas and thoughts in reference to the subject they are dealing with in said document.
To use this great tool it is not necessary to install any program or anything like that we just need a google account and internet access in the device in which we want to work.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

One of the disadvantages of Google Docs is the fact that several people can modify the document can delete data from the other.
There are also certain limitations in terms of the capacity that you can accept depending on the format of the file with which you are going to work.
And finally, it could not be safe if the user does not create a secure password or if he makes a mistake when sharing a file.

"Google Docs is great for creating and collaborating on documents"

// Owner/Videographer at Pixel Puppy Productions

What do you like about Google Docs?

Google Docs is great for when our team needs to have everyone's input on a document. We are each able to edit the document live so that we are not emailing back and forth and having multiple versions of the same document floating around. It saves a ton of confusion and headache!

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

Nothing! Google Docs works great. It saves us time and energy, not to mention the confusion, of emailing files back and forth with multiple revisions.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

Google Docs helps us eliminate any need to have local documents on our computers that need collaborative work on them. It saves us headache and confusion every day.

"An extremely easy way to share documents online."

// Jr Software Engineer at RapidFire Tools

What do you like about Google Docs?

You can conveniently share documents online and multiple users can edit them using their computers or mobile devices.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

One thing I don't like is if you're on a mobile device, it keeps asking you if you'd like to install the mobile application. You can only edit google docs using the mobile application. It would be more convenient if I was able to modify the document on a mobile device with just the web browser. Using it on some browsers on a computer also has a similar issue where you need to install the browser extension in order to copy and paste. But if you don't mind installing the applications, you'll have an easy way to edit the same online document from any device.

"Google Docs Review 2019"

// System Administrator at Life Time Inc.

What do you like about Google Docs?

This makes collaborating on documents with co-workers incredibly easy. We also use this when creating whitepapers for clients. Being able to share our documents with our friends or colleagues really facilitates the work and collaboration, we can also print our documents online, we can also download them in different formats.

In total, I find this a very fun tool. Its name suggests it's like a common text editing software, but it is way more than that. Of course, you can use it to write, and it even has a bunch of nice looking templates. It saves your docs in the cloud, and that always comes handy. But it really stands out in the group work environment. I've noticed it becomes a subtle communication line within our business, and that's just lovely. I will explain that later.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

If Chrome is not your default browser, you can not use it without an internet connection. Besides that, I do not see any negative points. It forces you to use Google's browser to enjoy all its advantages.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I use Google docs everywhere. I have been using google docs for around 7 years now and I like it a lot. It has helped me through my academic career and I hope it continues to grow and surprise us with even better and cool features in the future.

"What's not to love?"

// Instructional Technology Facilitator at Greenville County Schools

What do you like about Google Docs?

What's not to love about Google Docs? It's an incredible platform for writing and much more. Here are a handful of reasons about why I'm a big fan of Docs:
- It has a user-friendly interface. Things are easy to find. They layout and design just makes sense, and is constantly improving as more and more people use the platform and Google continues to release updates.
- It's cloud-based, so I never need to worry about losing something, forgetting to save it, a thousand copies being emailed around. There's one copy in the cloud.
- Collaboration is seamless and easy. I can add teammates to the same Doc and we can work away, either in the main writing or by using the exceptional comment feature. Likewise, students and teachers can perform the same feat, as well as students-to-students. Awesome for peer reviewing/editing.
- The G Suite Marketplace has hundreds of great add-ons that make the Doc more powerful or capable of accomplishing even more. I recommend exploring a few, such as Doc to Forms, EasyBib, Goophy, Kaizena, etc. So many great add-ons out there created by developers, many of which are free!
- Within Docs, I specifically love the "translate" and "explore" features. Translate will effortlessly translate your entire document into many languages, simply with the push of a button. This works great for ESOL students (students who do not natively speak English). It's not a perfect translation, but it is a starting point. The Explore features allows one to research Google within the Doc. You needn't go to different tabs, it's nested there within the Doc.
- The fact that it's always saving in the cloud is phenomenal, but on top of that, Docs offers a revision history which allows you to go back and find previous versions or edits. With a simple click, you can revert back to that copy or make it a separate copy. Brilliant idea and feature!
- If you already have a Gmail account, then Docs is free! It comes with the G Suite platform (or is one of the Google apps). So no need to download other software or pay for it.
- Recently, Google added the voice-to-text feature which enables Docs to type what someone speaks. This is great for brainstorming in groups and keeping a running log of thoughts. It's also good for students with learning disabilities.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

I have no major concerns or dislikes regarding Google Docs. Some Word users may find that it's missing certain things - but I find that 98% of users are just fine. And there usually seems to be a work-around (using an add-on) or just another way of achieving your goal (because it was made by different developers). Docs also has the ability to convert other styles of documents either into a Doc (so that it can be edited) or exported to another file type. This is a great feature, but sometimes the transfer doesn't go so well and the "translated" document/file is a mess! I expect that Google will continue to improve this feature, though.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I can't begin to explain all the ways in which I use Google Docs. It's a part of what I do, every single day. From organization, accomplishing tasks, word processing, student assignments and projects... the list of ways I use Google Docs goes on and on.

"Google Docs, a solution to create, edit and share Docs on line"

// Chemical Analyst at PDV Marina

What do you like about Google Docs?

The most pleasant thing that Google Docs has is its work environment, this is simple and intuitive. It resembles the environment of other text processors such as Ms office and Open office .
Google Docs allows you to convert and download files in various formats, and upload any document that we have created with another computer program and we can share it with an unlimited number of people or readers and have our documents anywhere when you enter Google.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

There are few disadvantages of Google Docs, I think the only deficiency is that they do not have as many functions as many text processors, however, it has the necessary to fulfill an excellent job. In addition, Google offers to install the G. drive extension in the browser and have the option to edit offline

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

// Software Developer at Stride Consulting

What do you like about Google Docs?

What I like most about Google Docs is how easy it is to set up and use.
Another thing is how it allows collaboration with colleagues.
I also like the autosae feature. Because of this, I've never lost anything thing, as whatever changes made are automatically saved.
Lastly, I like the tight integration with other Google products that I use.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

It's really hard to dislike anything about this software solution. The only thing I can pick out is that Google docs doesn't have as much formatting options as Microsoft Word. Even though most of Word's formatting options aren't really needed all the time, there are times I wish to use some. That's when I wish Google Docs had them

"I couldn't live without it"

// Digital Nomad Serial Entrepreneur at Multiple

What do you like about Google Docs?

I almost never use offline docs or sheets now because it seems so pointless compared to using Google Docs! They have now launched almost all the features offline docs has (like conditional formatting, image editing etc). It's very simple to use and really easy to share with others (and to control what their editing capabilities are).

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

I find the dashboard can sometimes be confusing - can't find docs or they are separated into who originally created them. Google isn't always very intuitive and the help pages can be overly complicated. It also lacks some of the formatting you can do in offline docs.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I have been using Google docs for years - it was invaluable as a student writing group essays (all editing at the same time, and tracking historical changes) and accessing files from anywhere.
I now use it for company documents (or personal) - really anything that I need to be able to share with others, or access/edit as a group.

"Google docs as a platform to create and collaborate"

// Project Assistant at University of the Philippines Diliman

What do you like about Google Docs?

Google docs help company wide communication and collaboration through its ease-of-access platform where we can create, edit, and collaborate with everyone, company-wide. The smart-editing function of the application is very useful and the availability of various customization tools is a plus. Pre-set templates are great as they help lessen the burden of searching the right kind to use. The app also lets the users to access the needed files anywhere, even on-the-go despite having no connection or offline. Working together on a single file including comments and revisions has never been easier thanks to Google docs.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

User friendliness has been one of the its issues when it comes to their loss in quality. Every time they update the Google docs or Google drive interface, even Google mail, you have to learn where things are all over again. Despite updates, Google docs still has bugs when it comes to formatting. This isn’t usually a problem when collaborating with others on a document and brainstorming ideas. However, if you plan on making the document the slightest bit presentable, it can be troublesome; especially the bullets and numbers function. Further, in some occasions it may be hard to track who did what in the document. Otherwise, it's a great platform.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

Google docs helps our company solve unified communication across various divisions in the workplace. It acts as a single document cloud where we can create, edit, and corroborate with people towards an efficient workforce. It has been a pleasure using the application as it solves most of our data processing, analysis, and storage by being accessible to everyone in the office. Moreover, Google docs provide a one-stop-shop for making graphics, tables, spreadsheets, you name it. Google docs makes everything worthwhile during laboratory meetings in document form. has the basic tools of the work area, create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and forms, its appearance is very nice and very easy to use and implement, employment plus the options of documents and presentations and both perform very well, have Pre-designed templates with very good looks and are very useful to save working time.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

It does not have other options that are important and that other software has already implemented, such as creation of infographics, task scheduler and project times, creator of notes and activities, communication via chat or video call.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

What do you like about Google Docs?

Its User Interface is awesome. Ultimately it’s a product from G Suite by Google. Supports Collaborative work efficiently. Can be used in different businesses and schools. Because it’s a product from google the link with google drive is essential for me. I used to save these files in Drive. Its easy to use even if you have used any other software of this type. It easy to search files in this software.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

Some features are lacking here so it’s not a full replacement of Microsoft Word. For large projects it behaves uncomfortably and is not used for these projects but works better with small projects and businesses. Normally I use files of small size but google should work in this section to beat its competitors. Formatting pictures with Google docs is also picky. It is also incompatible with other software which are not by google.

"Google Docs: An easy way to create and edit documents"

// Analista at Consejo Federal de Gobierno

What do you like about Google Docs?

This program is very easy and simple to use. I like that you can create, edit, share documents from the comfort of your home, office or on the street through a mobile application. I also like that everything is saved automatically, in the servers of this company and you only need to have a Gmail account. Several people at the same time can edit a document, which facilitates teamwork. No matter in which country you are, you will always have access to your information stored in Google Docs

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

What I do not like is that you always need internet to access your information. If one day you are going down the street and you do not have a good signal, you will not be able to access your account. Also, all information is recorded on private servers, which you can not control.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

In my work I must visit food projects and at the end we must make an article about what we saw in the visit. We use Google Docs to create that file and share it among co-workers. I am also a musician, and sometimes I need the lyrics of a song and when I download it I keep it in that format. When I'm studying, I do my work with this program. "Google Docs is best when you need to share"

// Graphic Designer at Anthony Garcia

What do you like about Google Docs?

I love Google Docs. It took me a little while to get used to what is different from other text document programs, but once I did it was a relief. Word is so clunky and overly complicated. Google docs is better. Plus they are saved in the cloud and you can access them anywhere, or share them easily with anyone. Whether you need to collaborate or just give access to the files, the integration with Google Drive and the rest of the Google web apps is fantastic.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

There are a few things that are either clunky or outright missing from Google Docs and that can get annoying at times. Most everything I want to do I can do, but every once in a while I get stumped by something that seems like it should be a feature included in the app, but isn't. I think Google would be wise to expand the features of Google Docs a bit more. Simple is good, but only if you can totally get done what you need to do.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

I use Google Docs any time I need to share work with others or collaborate on a document. I design websites, and the best place to share the supporting documentation, like all the copy that goes on a website, is in Google Docs.
I also use it for any files that I will need in a different place, like handouts that I need to print at school. I don't have to worry about font issues or versions of software, or operating systems or any of that. I can print it if the computer is connected to the internet, and that's it.

What do you like about Google Docs?

The main advantage of Google Docs is collaboration. I like that the changes are really fast. There is also a whole history of changes. It's easy to see who is making changes and if it necessary cancel them. I also like that I can easily share documents with other colleges. I can set different permissions for different users. I really like the function of automatic saving of changes. I appreciated it only after I had problems with electricity. I also like that the service is completely free.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

I like everything in this service. Google Docs is one of the best service that I ever use.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

This is one of the main working services. It is very convenient to share files with my colleges. In addition, we often use collaborative editing in real time. The main thing is that now we are not afraid to lose our documents, they are all kept in the cloud. "Collaboration for student success"

// District Staff Development Coordinator at Ramapo Indian Hills High School District

What do you like about Google Docs?

Google Docs has since changed the game in education. It has helped students and teachers to collaborate, share, and manage documents anytime, anyplace. Teachers can both work with their students, helping compile, edit, and publish documents while also managing student work. The ability to share and leave comments, collaborate live, and publish to the web has been a tremendous advantage in education. But the ability to extend Google Doc's capabilities with add-ons has been another great benefit with add-ons such as Easybib, LucidChart, and Kaizena.

What do you dislike about Google Docs?

Not much honestly. Being an online based application, you need to have internet connection to work on documents. But, Google does give you the ability to "work offline" within their Drive app. Some minor page formatting options normally associated with Word are also missing. However, a lot of things go unnoticed and I believe Google is going after simplicity.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Google Docs solve?

To foster collaboration between teacher and among students. We have also been using Google Docs to foster more blended learning online, and Google Docs has helped us continue to become more digital/paperless.
