Asana Review

Editors' Review by the Project Management Software Review Team

Asana is a cloud-based project management software solution designed to enable easier team collaboration and automate daily work operations. It does this through a bevy of powerful features such as updated activity feed, email bridge, project permissions, timelines and more. Users experience an advanced and interactive platform to work with their team. Other functionalities include the ability to track projects and set priorities.

In managing and completing projects, employees often work under certain pressures and circumstances. Without the right tools to keep track of their progress, as well as if other members of their team have completed their tasks, businesses can easily suffer major setbacks and miss deadlines. Asana fixes these challenges by giving users a platform to collaborate with their team as they work.

Asana is catered for businesses of all sizes. Its features help users manage team projects, stay on top of tasks and automate work processes. Before, teams within different departments had to deal with scheduled meetings, long email threads and confusing spreadsheets. But now, Asana provides a better and smarter alternative for you to accomplish tasks faster.

Asana Features

Asana has several proprietary features to assist businesses in managing their projects. It offers an easy-to-use and feature-rich platform for you to work with. It’s catered for a varying level of difficulties—from small projects to bigger and strategic initiatives.

Project management

Asana’s project management features help users during each step of a project, such as planning, organizing, managing and finalizing. Most of these tools also act as a collaboration tool. They help users in four different ways:

Engineering – users are given the ability to file and track reports and sprints in their projects. You are notified of any changes and issues along the way.

Marketing – you can plan events and activities ahead of time with the help of calendar integration; this makes it easier to keep track of all the things you must first.

Sales – lead generation primarily works under this category. Users can better handle prospects first and efficiently manage their customer accounts.

Human resources – this feature lets you manage candidates and the whole onboarding process with a checklist of tasks that need to be done.

Agile management

This feature guides users in planning and guiding projects through a collaborative effort between cross-functional teams and their end-users. This lets you be more flexible in terms of tracking launches, simplifying projects and communication with teammates through the following tools: spring planning, bug tracking, product feedback and conversations.

Kanban boards

Kanban boards give you visualization over your impending tasks and unfinished activities. This helps your team members track what’s already been completed and which part of the project needs to be dealt with.

Timeline

Spreadsheets offer little to no functionalities when it comes to going beyond planning and organizing. Asana’s platform, on the other hand, helps you keep relevant project details in one centralized location, build and maintain plans and manage several ongoing activities at once. You don’t need Excel spreadsheets if you have Asana’s Timeline feature, which plots out your project timelines, scheduled tasks and member’s assigned tasks.

Task management

Asana’s task management feature isn’t just a list of all the things your team must complete by the end of the day. Instead, it’s a tool for you to track tasks, delegate subtasks and set deadlines for your members. This keeps you organized and on top of what you need to get done.

Calendar integration

What this feature does is it provides you with a calendar view of what your team needs to get done during an expected period. It also helps you know which deadlines must be met and what your members are currently doing. You also have the option to switch your view between calendars and lists.

Asana agile project management

You can see where everything stands and see a bigger picture of your business’s performance.

Automated work operations

Don’t worry about tasks taking up most of your time and benefit from Asana’s workflow automation. These features simplify the workload, eliminate any errors and inaccuracies and reduce the time it usually takes for you to complete your tasks.

Varying levels of functionalities and several advanced features differ according to the pricing package you’d choose. If you want to test out the solution’s features first to get an initial feel of what you can do within the platform, then you should try the free version.

Basic

Basic is the free version of Asana. It’s catered for individuals or teams with little to no experience in project management. It has basic features that allow you to work within limited functionalities and communicate well with your team. You can collaborate up to 15 teammates and assign tasks and due dates to your members.

Premium

Priced at $10.99 per month and per user, Premium is designed for teams that need to be confident in creating project plans. It offers more advanced features compared to the previous plan, since users can now better track team projects with its premium tools. These tools include the following: Timeline, advanced search and reporting, custom fields and an admin console.

Business

Business offers a project management platform for teams and companies who need to manage work across initiatives. It costs $24.99 per user and per month. It has everything Premium offers but with additional key features. This includes Portfolios, Workload, Custom rules builder (an automated tool that allows you to write your own rules) and Adobe Creative Cloud integration.

Enterprise

Enterprise doesn’t have a fixed price which means you have to contact Sales to get a quotation. It’s suitable for organizations in need of additional control, support and security. It has all the features found in Premium but with additional ones such as SAML, data export and deletion, block native integrations and priority support.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a software solution that’s easy to use, has good mobile applications and offers a free plan, then Asana is one of the top contenders. Businesses in need of a good project management platform can rely on Asana to keep their work organized, team members updated, and projects accomplished. "An Overview of Asana"

What do you like about Asana?

Regardless of the organizational structure that is displayed inside the association, group members can update data in Asana using either their laptop or a portable App. Amazing project management tool for managing with everyone and seeing all work in one place. By allowing us to modify the platform to suit our unique demands and workflows, Asana's customizable features and capabilities advanced our broader administrative involvement. It allows you to customize your working schedule and provides excellent board and Kanban views. It was possible to develop a repeatable procedure that anyone on my team could use by using Asana. As a result, we can grow quickly and take on additional clients without worrying that we won't be able to handle the increased burden. We adore the fact that every customer is managed through a separate project, and that within each project, we have their complete podcast calendar for the coming year planned out. This is necessary so that we can plan the workload of the team and determine when to hire. The program's vibrant and dynamic design encourages users to finish activities on time. While some programs sacrifice the simplicity of their apps to appear bright or trendy, others give up their design for an intuitive dashboard. Asana performs both. Every day, Asana is used by our group. It's an app that does more than just act as a to-do list; it actually helps its users feel accomplished. This program is a must-have for any business or team to use, whether it be because of the fashionable emojis that sporadically appear or the simple interface!

What do you dislike about Asana?

The projects don't have the kind of visibility they say they do. Training folks to use this who don't think like the system is set up is more challenging than many people imagine. For those that think in this way, it is obvious, but for everyone else, the design is not particularly user-friendly. For crucial jobs and project communications, it doesn't take the place of other communication channels, which may surprise some people given the marketing. Although Asana provides valuable execution reports as part of its Dashboards, there is certainly space for improvement. If you provide services, you need to utilize a different time-tracking tool. You generally need to use a couple ERPs or budget-controlling tools. As the premium plan is incredibly expensive in comparison to similar applications, I would also enjoy more flexible estimate options for professionals and small projects.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

I didn't immediately appreciate it when we went to Asana years ago because I had to acclimatize to a new atmosphere. But because I use it every day, I quickly became accustomed to the app. Although there may be a slight learning curve, it is incredibly simple to use. However, using the program is as simple as using common sense, and their support documentation is incredibly helpful if you run into any issues. Even though I'm familiar with the app, I was astonished to see that Asana has a lot more uses when I went to access their knowledge base. Even with just the free version, it's really strong and versatile. It's sufficient for SMBs

It is a software that does not present problems in our facilities, since the integration of this software in the different departments has helped us to be more capable of completing projects as a great work team.

"Follow through with job and movement the board toolset."

What do you like about Asana?

Exceptionally simple to fabricate group activities and set the right possession.

Task coordinated effort in asana is the one thing the majority of their rivals can't make up for lost time to; having the option to relegate a solitary errand to more than one individual and having undertakings connected to various ventures permits cooperation between groups to be practically consistent. I have given a ton of options a shot of interest in the previous little while, yet nothing has caused me to accept that any of their immediate rivals can offer something worth my time and energy.

Asana likewise praises with a huge rundown of combinations permitting our groups to work straightforwardly with a rundown of different instruments without requiring extra contribution through trades and so on.

What do you dislike about Asana?

A few capabilities and robotizations in asana are endeavor just and their master/venture plan can be somewhat more costly to a portion of different arrangements in that this field.

Their course of events view can profit from additional channels connected with the view as it's inordinately difficult to use on a greater undertaking as of now.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

It can easily flex between a list view or a sticky-note style board. The tasks are easy to drag and drop and asana links between platforms. I guess all of which is pretty standard for these types of software. What pulls ASANA ahead - the My Tasks view, and that you can have specific rules running on your My Task view to organise the activities how you need them.

"Get done with responsibility and action the executives toolset."

What do you like about Asana?

It can undoubtedly flex between a rundown view or a tacky note style board. The errands are not difficult to move and asana joins between stages. I surmise which is all norm for these sorts of programming. What pulls ASANA ahead - the My Errands view, and that you can have explicit guidelines running on your My Assignment view to arrange the exercises how you want them.

What do you dislike about Asana?

The tickets can be challenging to see where they start and where they end. A chunk of time must pass to become accustomed to the connection point as it's not quite as clear as Trello at outwardly distinguishing various bits of work. Likewise the notices can get excessive, so you want to frequently oversee warnings - switching them off isn't simple since then you pass up significant assignments.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

Action and undertaking the board for projects across different offices - our business lives in Asana. We use it to set conditions and track work that could should be finished in a couple of months time.

"Asana is a great collaborative platform that unifies teams for success"

What do you like about Asana?

Asana is a software that is very versatile, it is a great platform to keep track of all the tasks that are assigned every day and keep track of all the progress that is made throughout the weeks, analyzing the productivity and progress of a specific project and knowing what to do next. I specifically like the way it handles all the organization of projects and the different views in which the timelines are displayed for easier understanding and it helps plan everything with a very specific mindset because it helps me focus on the main points.
Additionally, I like how easy it is to assign tasks to different members and monitor how they are completed throughout the day, receiving a notification every time there is an important update.

What do you dislike about Asana?

I feel like the platform does not do a good job at providing a "modern" look to it, at times the dashboard will feel really cluttered with all the information and it is a platform that needs to be constantly "organized" by deleting old tasks and customizing the views for it to appear more organized. I also feel like the customization of notifications is very limited, sometimes I will get notifications that I am not really interested about or do not have a very big impact on the progress of a project and I would like to choose what I want to be notified about, but it is not very possible. Lastly, I would like more access when it comes to team management, for example, I want to be able to divide an already existing team without needing to create a separate one, like sub-tasks but for teams, this way the management of tasks is better inside of an existing team.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

I use Asana to manage all the projects that are assigned to me inside the organization that I work for, it is really incredible the fact that it has helped me have more control over the way a project is handled and how it progresses throughout its stages until its completion, Asana has been able to provide the right tools that help me assign the necessary tasks to everyone in order for a project to be finished successfully. It has increased collaboration because it is an unified workspace where everyone can communicate with each other and at the same time work on their own tasks individually, and it has increased productivity within all teams.

Asana has been a really helpful tool in carrying out project management for our company especially in the times of pandemic. Asan ahas helped us track, manage, and collaborate on various tasks and projects while sotting remotely.

What do you dislike about Asana?

Asana can be a little trucky and difficult to understand for a beginner due to abundance of options and features. Also we can only have one assignee per task which should be improved.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

Asana helps us in delegating tasks and collaborating on various everyday tasks and long term projects while sitting at remote locations. We are using Asana for different domains like onboarding new employees, making marketing and brand related merch, etc. Asana has helped us in becoming transparent and has helped prevent doubling of work while working collaboratively.

"Asana is a simple and clean software for project management "

What do you like about Asana?

It is a simple and clean software for project management and a great calendar tool for deadlines’ monitoring. Its dashboard can be customized and altered as per teams’ requirements. It gives constant reminders when a task is set and a deadline is assigned. It is versatile with multiple layouts and templates which can be used according to projects’ needs. It has a good integration with Slack, Google, Microsoft and other tools.

What do you dislike about Asana?

It provides a poor functionality for exporting features. Its mobile app lacks several features which are available on its web app. There is no option to print task calendars which would be helpful if available. Its free version is limited, and it has much more functionalities on its premium model. It lacks the ability to assign a task a starting date and required days to complete that task so that the next task in pipeline automatically comes in progress after three days. It can be more user friendly and can have more options.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

It improves general management by organizing and prioritizing the tasks and bringing transparency to the project. It helps in improving team collaboration and interaction and improves work efficiency by prioritizing tasks. It helps prioritizing the tasks that enable users to work according to the priorities set. What do you dislike about Asana?

There's a lot of different features to Asana. It's great that it provides so much flexibility and does so much, but it can be intimidating for fellow software engineers who just want to code and want to spend as little time as possible managing their work's visibility.

"Excellent business communication."

What do you like about Asana?

The relationship capacity of this product has allowed us to link it with different design resources from some applications to our organizational panel. The characteristics of this product are quite good, without a doubt the integration with black makes it much more competitive and therefore a timeline and a calendar of events that are very useful when managing the different projects we carry out.

What do you dislike about Asana?

The organization within the software depends on the person who uses it and on how to create the different environments of the program according to the type of user that makes one user or another have the option is too different and generates doubts among the staff since in some cases the environments are not alike.

"Gestión de Proyecto"

What do you like about Asana?

What do you dislike about Asana?

Lo que no me gusta de Asana es que no se puede cambiar tipo de proyecto puedes crear proyecto de lista o de tablero, lamentablemente no hay forma de convertirlo después de creado.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

Mi principal sobre el software de gestión de proyecto es siempre reflexionar luego de que terminamos uno. Puedes tomar todo lo aprendido y crear una guía para que la próxima vez que necesites planificar y gestionar un proyecto similar ya estés preparado.

Asana is an excellent solution for expense management, where it helps us track all the expenses. Furthermore, Asana gives us the chance to import and export data from different locations. "Organize the work of the office from any location."

What do you like about Asana?

It is a very complete tool for project management, I can say many valuable features but I like to highlight its options for creating schedules and portfolios, has many functions designed for simple and direct use to run and facilitate team tasks, integrates very well with other platforms and applications, its user interface is very powerful, well designed, organized and functional, being able to control and observe the progress in objects and tasks of the teams is very positive and allows you to manage projects with resources very easy to implement.

What do you dislike about Asana?

When you have a common work platform to administer and manage projects with large teams there may be problems of administration from a single shared space, for that reason it is very important to establish very specific hierarchies and controls, otherwise there will be problems and obstacles that always end up in failures.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

When working in a large company, many projects are handled in parallel and this causes disorder in the administration and management of teams, it is very difficult to establish tasks, objectives and goals to be fulfilled in an orderly manner. Asana allows us from one place to access the control and monitoring of work teams and to track the time of each scheduled task and its achievements.

"Excellent platform with high customization"

What do you like about Asana?

Asana is a powerful tool that is very useful when it comes to carrying out project development, since it allows users to carry out this process more quickly and easily through the assignment of tasks or subtasks to members of the team which is a great reason to be attracted to Asana, also has an efficient notification system which allows us to be aware of any update, as well as the one that has a calendar where you can visualize more effective dates or important events.

What do you dislike about Asana?

Asana as useful as it may be, it still has characteristics that would be great that could be improved, such is the case of implementing functions that can be used more often so that users do not get confused by not understanding what it is for.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

"An excellent platform for collaborative work"

What do you like about Asana?

I like Asana because it is an excellent solution to carry out collaborative work and project management since it provides the necessary tools for this process such as being able to assign tasks to several team members and can divide them by tasks or subtasks so that each one carries out a role and the corporate production increases, also has a very efficient notification system since through this it is much simpler that the whole team is aware of the changes or advances that the project takes, as well as being aware of what each member is doing and the best thing is that due to its integration with the calendar it is possible to have a more visual vision of the dates of our interest.

What do you dislike about Asana?

What I don't like about Asana is that they usually send emails in bulk to notify about small things, so it would be ideal if these emails were only received for notifications or reasons of great importance.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

Asana has allowed me to be able to have a balance in terms of work flow since the fact that all team members collaborate in different tasks makes progress in each project much faster and more efficient because with this software assign tasks and exchange files is very simple .

What do you like about Asana?

It is an ideal software for the correct administration of tasks, with which I can manage my business projects step by step. It is easy to use, it provides practical tools that allow anyone who wants to use the software to do it without any inconvenience. Its functionality is simple, it is possible to add important information, of any kind, that favor the efficient organization of tasks.

What do you dislike about Asana?

We have found a mobile application necessary, it is more practical and simple to receive notifications on the cell phone than in the email. In this way I could take Asana as my particular project manager at all times.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

The benefits have been great, we better manage tasks and events that involve the organized management of a project, together the work team handles a constant progress of tasks and subtasks, thanks to the simplicity of Asana and its ease of use. What do you dislike about Asana?

There is nothing I really dislike about the product. The user interface is fresh and clean, though it can sometimes seem a little too simplistic.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

Our virtual, global team was having trouble managing tasks and coordinating activities. Asana helped us keep track of tasks across teams and gave leadership insight into the activities taking place. "Helpful for organizing my own projects, but difficult across different teams"

// Content Marketer at IncentFit

What do you like about Asana?

I've been using Asana to organize my daily and weekly reoccurring tasks at a software company. I've found that it's great for organizing everything I need to do and keeping my manager up to date on what I've been working on. We can also collaborate on shared lists, such as a long lists of content ideas. For example, my manager and others contribute to that list, and then when I need new content ideas, I just go down the list and click one off. I've also found it helpful to keep track of deadlines.

What do you dislike about Asana?

It is difficult to keep track of all of the projects if you're working across many teams, and we've also struggled to figure out how to code priority of tasks. Aside from sorting by deadline, you need to be thoughtful about how you create tasks and how you categorize priority. This is probably our shortcoming, but I'd like Asana better if that was easier to understand.

What do you dislike about Asana?

I would like Asana to have more customizable reporting. One of the advantages of using Asana is that you can track tasks and actually use these tasks to create repetitive processes, but reports can be complex.

"Asana is a great tool for project management"

// Graphic Designer at Anthony Garcia

What do you like about Asana?

There are so many things I love about Asana — the different ways that you can view and organize your tasks are varied enough that I think anyone could find a workflow that matches their style. Working with teams, projects, tasks, and subtasks are quick and clear. Organizing with tags and color codes is very helpful as well.
One of my favorite features is how you can add a task to multiple projects at the same time. That way you can make overview projects that help you keep from getting overwhelmed when you have tons of projects and hundreds of tasks to complete. It can get overwhelming fast, but Asana can help get it under control and keep it manageable.

What do you dislike about Asana?

The main problem I have with Asana is that their pricing structure makes it prohibitive for freelancers like me to upgrade and get the pro level features that I would find useful. What I mean is this; they have a free plan, which is great and has a LOT of features for a free plan, but in order to upgrade, the next tier requires 5 users minimum. That would be fine if I was part of a company, but I am a solo freelancer, so it is difficult to justify paying for 4 empty seats just to get a couple of cool features that the free plan is missing.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

I use Asana to manage all my projects across several ventures as well as my own personal projects and home chores. I have made different sections in the "teams" for different ventures, and add projects there. It is very helpful for keeping a huge amount of tasks from getting overwhelming and helps me prioritize tasks so that I am working on what is most important at any given moment.

"Great task management tool"

// Business System Analyst at Mockup Science Inc.

What do you like about Asana?

I love that we can assign certain tasks to different or multiple users since I'm sure that there are often several employees working on one project. I like that there is a log saying who did what within the task, as in so and so changed the description. This is helpful when I can't remember what has been changed since I last checked a project.

What do you dislike about Asana?

Takes a little bit to learn and figure out their terminology and how things work. Also, it will be good to add some method of being able to track time spent working on a project. Ability to total up or see along the way how much time has been spent on the project.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

We use Asana in our team to manage all inbound requests, priorities, projects and in general the workload across all stakeholders and team members.

"Project Management Tool"

// Marketing Manager at Extra Vital Science

What do you like about Asana?

I like this program, that you can choose the appearance of your toolbar. The program even has a free version that will help you evaluate its capabilities. My favorite aspect of this platform is how easily you can store notes, conversations, documents and task lists related to your projects in one place. If you are looking for a simple and free solution, I can recommend using a trial or free version of this platform for several projects and track your success when interacting and registering.

What do you dislike about Asana?

The mobile platform application was one of the weakest. I also did not like that there was a frequent arrival of e-mail messages and notifications that I received at the beginning. Once I learned how to change the notification settings, I found that this experience would be much nicer.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

With this program, I solve an individual problem, which is the organization of my daily tasks. I use a program for planning tasks, projects, it also gives me a real timeline and a visual representation of how busy my month or week is. The program also allows me to track when a task is not ready for execution and I can move it to a new date, and the task records this movement.

"Your team will be able to do more together with Asana"

// Customer Service Representative at Secury

What do you like about Asana?

Excellent functionality, several "levels" of the task. As a consequence, good detail. There is an opportunity to sort assignments by priority. There is a convenient system of commenting and communication with colleagues. A user-friendly interface makes the product look like a full desktop application. The service is useful for quite large teams, where you should separate the "desktops" of different groups of users. Asana is convenient for both modest and complex projects.

What do you dislike about Asana?

I wish it could be a time tracking feature built into this software. This will be useful for pacing time and for tracking time for tasks.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

"Teamwork without e-mail", reads the slogan on the official website of the project. In addition, it really is: thanks to convenient lists of tasks, the service allows you to organize the work of the team without leaving the system. Team collaboration has improved when we start running multiple projects. We have many new clients to onboard.

"Perfect Task Manager"

// Manager at Red Bull Distribution Company

What do you like about Asana?

Any problem can be planned as much as possible in detail. You can make projects under joint tasks, divide them into sections. Also, each task can have its own tags (not only standard ones but any ones you want). Design and usability are indeed at a high level. Especially when compared with the old version of the service or some similar system. The opportunity to invite a person for general work on projects. For the invitation, it is sufficient to know only the email. For team members, you can assign different levels of access. A very convenient option for visualizing tasks by days. It is easy to find out what tasks are planned for the next week. You can transfer tasks between days simply by dragging and dropping them.

What do you dislike about Asana?

The Android application contains all the basic functions. However, it's much more convenient to work from the desktop.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Asana solve?

We use almost all the functions of this service. For me, this is the best system of joint coordination. People in my team know exactly what to do and when to do it. My clients know exactly what is happening with their projects. Moreover, I know how to plan my day. Communication is directly related to tasks and results - this is really important.
