Splashtop Review

Editors' Review by the Remote Support Software Review Team

Splashtop is a comprehensive solution providing remote desktop features and functionalities that assists IT and business professionals, help desks, support, Managed Service Providers and other providers.

Originally known as Splashtop Remote, it allows users to conveniently connect to and access computers and servers using their mobile devices or laptops and other similar devices.

What the software does is let the desktop environment of a user’s personal computer remotely run on a single system. whether on a server or computer, while it is displayed and accessed on another device such as a laptop or tablet.

As such, remote access software like Splashtop gives users the convenience of maintaining their computers even when they are remotely located from the actual device, even if they do not have their screen and keyboard in front of them. It is ideal for those who regularly travel but want to stay on top of their business deals and activities.

In addition, Splashtop does not only connect to and provide remote access from a user’s device, but it also has support functionalities. This is an essential factor for those in need of both unattended and attended support.

There are a variety of Splashtop products, each one designed and intended for a specific user group or category. Business professionals (Splashtop Business Access), tech support teams (Splashtop SOS), Managed Service Providers (Splashtop Remote Support), IT professionals (Splashtop Remote Support) and even teachers (Splashtop Classroom) and regular consumers (Splashtop Personal) will benefit from using the software in a variety of ways.

Splashtop Features

Splashtop has many features that can benefit more than just the IT community, including:

Remote Support

Perhaps one of the most important features of Splashtop is the quality and quantity of remote support it offers. It provides users with both attended and unattended remote support, which means practically all areas are covered.

Attended remote support means IT teams and help desks, customer and support service workers will be able to access and point out issues right away and come up with solutions without wasting a lot of time and money.

Customers’ problems are resolved fast and their satisfaction level is high.
Unattended remote support, on the other hand, focuses more on providing access, maintenance and support to computers and servers.

IT providers, internal tech teams, and Managed Service Providers are the ones who can benefit most from this type of support. These technicians and teams primarily use the software for offering regular support and maintenance for their clients.

In addition, unattended remote support makes it more convenient and practical for teams to efficiently provide IT infrastructure maintenance support including troubleshooting and updates installation.

Multi-platform Support

Another valuable feature of Splashtop is its ability to support multiple platforms, which means users can easily remote control their computers regardless of whether it’s a Mac, Linux or Windows.

Easy-to-use interface

Users will also like the fact that Splashtop is quite easy to use. It has drag-and-drop features that can be easily used for tasks such as chat, remote reboot, remote print and remote wake, among others. This especially helps with transferring files because all users have to do is use the trackpad or mouse to choose a file or files and then drag these to the remote screen of the destination device.

For Windows users who do not want to use the drag-and-drop feature, Splashtop also has a copy-paste functionality for the file transfer task. Instead of dragging and dropping the source file, users only need to copy it to the clipboard, go to the other computer and then paste the file to the destination folder.

There’s also a button that users can easily click when they need to transfer files but cannot get a remote access session. This makes transferring files even more convenient than it already is.

There are other features that help make Splashtop an ideal remote desktop solution, including faster speed and bandwidth capabilities, the ability to chat in remote sessions, easy deployment process and strong security features.

Splashtop Benefits

While its main task is facilitating convenient and efficient file transfer, Splashtop has many other benefits, including:

Comprehensive remote access

There are a lot of remote access and remote support software in the market but Splashtop is one of the most comprehensive ones. Its capability covers any type of device and can even be enjoyed by the users’ clients.

As such, computers and servers—whether they’re on Windows or Mac, Android or iOS devices and Chromebook or Chrome browser—will be easily accessible to them.

It’s software that helps users work seamlessly no matter where they are; users can conveniently control their remote device as if their keyboard and monitor are just in front of them—all in real-time.

Attended and Unattended Remote Support

It’s an all-around software solution because it offers wide coverage in terms of service. It does not only deliver attended but also unattended remote support. This means it supports all sides of the fence—the clients, the users, the providers, the tech and IT teams and even the regular consumer.

Easy Deployment Feature

Users like an easy deployment process and this is exactly what Splashtop offers. The deployment steps are simple, nothing too technical that non-tech users cannot understand. In addition, users can also do mass deployment via .exe and msi.

Likewise, users will find it easy to create a deployment package that they can then be sent to their clients and installed.

Easier to create and manage groups

In Splashtop, there are admins and user groups that are created to make remote support management tasks easier. These admins and groups are usually assigned particular roles and groups of computers or computers.

Stronger Security

Splashtop comes with strong encrypted security features. This allows for easy detection of any form of intrusion. Users are guaranteed first-rate security through features like two-step verification and device authentication. Likewise, all file transfers are secure because they are regularly logged.

Additionally, Amazon Web Services hosts the software’s cloud infrastructure, which means Splashtop also enjoys all the security functionalities its host has, including DDoS mitigation, data encryption and firewall protection.

SplashTop Pricing

As Splashtop has products for specific categories, it also offers different pricing packages according to user type.

For individuals and businesses, the Splashtop Business Access Pricing is divided into two categories:

Business Access Solo and Business Access Pro

The Solo package is priced at $5 per month with an annual billing of $60. Ideal for individual users, it has all the most important features: file transfer, remote access to different devices, remote print, logging and audio. Users can view only one remote monitor at a time. This package is ideal for access for up to two computers.

The Pro package has all the Solo features in addition to remote wake, chat, remote reboot, one computer for two remote users, teams with multiple users, desktop sharing through weblink and multiple remote monitors. This package is priced at $8.25 a month per user, with annual billing of $99.

IT and Managed Service Providers

For this group, there’s Remote Support Plus ($25 per month, billed at $299 per 25 computers per year) and Remote Support Premium (priced at $40 per month, $479 annually for 25 computers).

These packages have first-rate features such as unlimited concurrent sessions, fast remote access, unlimited technicians, attended and unattended support, drag-and-drop file transfer, session recording, priority technical support, remote wake, remote reboot, multi-monitor support, endpoint security and remote print, among others.

Splashtop has three packages for tech support and help desk teams:

All three packages come with support for unlimited devices. SOS+10 offers 10 unattended computers for every tech license while the Unlimited option offers unlimited unattended computers for every tech license.

Classroom Management packages

Mirroring360 Pro and Classroom Cloud. The Mirroring360 package is ideal for those using teachers who want to share their screen through web links to at least 40 student devices. It doesn’t charge an additional fee for the student devices. The package price is $29.99 per teacher per year.

The Classroom Cloud package, with pricing that starts at $29.99 per teacher per year, is ideal for teachers who want to use their device remotely, from any area in the classroom and share the screen with the students’ devices. The monthly fee varies according to the number of student devices (a maximum of 40) a teacher connects with.

Some of the above-mentioned packages come with extra features. In addition, users can also check out the software first by utilizing the free trial option.

Conclusion

Although there is no one-size-fits-all solution for businesses, especially when it comes to tech-related matters, Splashtop comes close to it because of its wide-ranging features. It’s an ideal investment for businesses, IT and tech teams and providers who need remote access to carry out their day-to-day tasks even when they’re mobile or traveling.
