What is Geekbot?

Geekbot is a slackbot assistant that helps users set up real asynchronous stand up meetings within Slack. The solution helps staff stay organized, up-to-date and aligned with the rest of the team. It only takes a few minutes to set up an initial standup with team members.

Geekbot creates a non-intrusive process to help teams stay focused on tasks. Each department can have its own timeline which is helpful for complex projects. Multiple standups break down information and distribute it to the right people directly.

Some of Geekbot's default set of questions include:

  • What did you accomplish yesterday?
  • What will you do today?
  • What obstacles are impeding your progress?

Users can adjust and customize questions for each standup to better fit the department or team, as well as set a personalized tone. Geekbot can understand simple chat commands such as ‘login’, ‘report’, ‘off’, and primary users can choose who has privileges to edit, and who will be limited to reporting.

All information is distributed through Slack as well as inside the dashboard environment, where users can perform a variety of added actions such as report filtering and additional insights. Users can download standup data by clicking the ‘download CSV’ link manage their email summaries and more.

Best slackbot for doing standup meetings

What do you like about Geekbot?

• Ability to edit private DMs and silent publishing to the channel
• Ease of configuration, templating, onboarding
• Love the engagement survey/reminder to nudge
• Pleasant/engaging customer support
• Quick reply status for repeating the same status from the previous day

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

• Doesn't always start on time
• Suffered from extensive delays a few times (20-30 minutes between questions)
• Unable to manage other standups (I purchased for several teams but I'm unable to see/configure their settings)
• Response times from customer support are a bit slow even via intercom (expect 1-2 business days, sometimes longer)
• Timeline performance (dashboard view) for summarization sometimes lags

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We used to have daily standups in person but some people are soft-spoken, so it became difficult to keep everyone engaged or respond to issues as they came up. Our velocity was slow and coordination began to degrade -- within a week of switching to geekbot everything improved drastically.

Geekbot makes standups work for our 100% distributed team!

What do you like about Geekbot?

I like the UI to manage standup. I like the dead simple integration with Slack and all of the slack commands you can use to pause standup updates (like if you're on vacation), and to start new standup reports. I like that Geekbot does everything we need it to do without additional complexity.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Occasionally I will notice that the standup prompt doesn't happen exactly when I've set it to. It is usually not much later (a couple of minutes), but it's the only complaint I can think of.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

I work for a 100% distributed remote company, and therefor the team I manage is spread all over the globe. Geekbot works really well for us. When I sign on in the morning, I can see all of the updates from my teammates in Asia and Europe and any conversations that resulted from their updates. It really helps the team maintain consistent communication and we always include a fun question ("What was something awesome you did outside of work yesterday?") Which helps us continue to get to know our teammates better. I also like that we have this standup in a "public" channel on our company slack, so anyone else in the company can see what's going on and chime in.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Having a remote team is difficult and Geekbot makes our daily standup an easy and convenient way to keep a pulse on the team. We have only just scratched the surface on the functionality but excited to continue to explore.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Having to pay for services is never ideal, but GB provides much more functionality than some of the free versions we tried.

What do you like about Geekbot?

In Chicas en Tecnologia we found it difficult to find a moment in which to sit down and see what the team was working on a daily basis. So it was difficult to identify emergencies or actions to take against certain objectives and things to do.
We started using Geekbot from Slack and it helped us a lot to organize ourselves, to see the work that each one does, to do things in a dynamic way. It is a very useful tool.

Highly recommend for your Daily Standup /Meetings

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot is by far the best Daily Standup app for slack! I'm attending college and have a Software Engineering group project. Our group needed a Daily Standup slack bot to make our Standups easier and we had tried two others before with bad luck. Standup Alice gave us so many problems so we switched to Geekbot and we could not be happier!! Geekbot has been excellent and I've recommended it to other teams at school who have equally loved it. I highly recommend it!!

I have nothing to complain about, we have not had one issue with Geekbot and I definitely recommend giving it a try.

What do you like about Geekbot?

I like how easy it is to setup your daily and reminders.
It is also very useful the repository of all publications and how you can navigate on it. The price is also good for me, since it is cheaper than other similar platforms.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

What I dislike could be applied to other competitors. I think asynchronus bots should leave you more freedom, provide you the "What I am I going to do today" of the previous day as "What did you do yesterday" of the current day and other improvements like that.

Great app to enhance communication among the team

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot it's a powerful tool to remind the whole team individuals they need to communicate their progresses. I know, it's kind of obvious everyone should remember to communicate and give accountability of their work, however as the team grows is difficult for managers to keep everyone on that page and that's where geekbot adds value automatizing any kind of reporting activity that is relevant. Super recommend!!!!

The price is quiet expensive for startups based in countries like ours, where currency is devaluated.

It reduced the problem of a lack of transparency/accountability of the team members, and added a consistent way for them to report asynchronously....

Geekbot has made it easier for our remote team to stay connected to eachother.

Using Geekbot is so simple and straightforward and feels like it fits in naturally into our remote working lifestyle.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

The price of $3 per user seems a bit high as we grow more. I would be much happier paying for tiered pricing that allows up to x users.

The Perfect Bot For Daily Standups

What do you like about Geekbot?

Working at a busy creative development agency can be chaotic, and running one can be even crazier. Managing multiple global clients and teams in various locations can be a cumbersome process especially when it comes to organising daily stand ups on various time zones. That is where Geekbot has come in to save the day, by allowing us to alert the team members at 09:00 to update Geekbot with their notes for the project, this then collates and sends a detailed summary to the PM and the key account stake holders.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

I would suggest maybe adding a feature for the PM or team to interject when another team member raises a blocking point or issue so it pauses sending further updates to an action has been agreed.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We have primarily used Geekbot to manage mobile application development projects.

Best tool for self organized teams

What do you like about Geekbot?

We are 4 people in the team and Geekbot helps us stay in touch with each one progress. We scheduled the Bot for each person in the team and we all got updates about the progress. Love it.

Great for remote teams

We're a distributed team and want to break down the culture of facetime and nine-to-five work. Geekbot helps us run our daily asynchronous standups, which allow our team to work on their own schedule. We also do weekly updates with Geekbot so our meetings are about discussing and questioning items, not simply providing updates. This makes us a much more efficient and effective team and we couldn't do it without Geekbot!
