What is Geekbot?

"Asynchronous stand up meetings inside Slack."

Geekbot is a slackbot assistant that helps users set up real asynchronous stand up meetings within Slack. The solution helps staff stay organized, up-to-date and aligned with the rest of the team. It only takes a few minutes to set up an initial standup with team members.

Geekbot creates a non-intrusive process to help teams stay focused on tasks. Each department can have its own timeline which is helpful for complex projects. Multiple standups break down information and distribute it to the right people directly.

Some of Geekbot's default set of questions include:

  • What did you accomplish yesterday?
  • What will you do today?
  • What obstacles are impeding your progress?

Users can adjust and customize questions for each standup to better fit the department or team, as well as set a personalized tone. Geekbot can understand simple chat commands such as ‘login’, ‘report’, ‘off’, and primary users can choose who has privileges to edit, and who will be limited to reporting.

All information is distributed through Slack as well as inside the dashboard environment, where users can perform a variety of added actions such as report filtering and additional insights. Users can download standup data by clicking the ‘download CSV’ link manage their email summaries and more.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot gives us a snapshot of what the whole team is working on each day. This helps managers keep track of deliverables, reduces the formation of silos in the team as well as fostering an environment of support and learning as this enables team members to flag obstacles earlier and receive the help they need

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Customisable templates - This is an area where Geekbot could improve - they just don't have as many templates as their competitors do. I would like to see more templates around process like employee onboarding, which Standuply offers.

What do you like about Geekbot?

So far our team is only using Geekbot to handle Standup, but it is amazing. There is not a single thing missing there. A most appreciated feature is that it handles timezones. Our company works with people from Europe, the US, South America and New Zealand without this, standup would be a mess.
Also love that people can pick and choose the best time for them to fill their standup, that's especially practical for contractors that have variable hours.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

It would be amazing if the whole setting up of standups could be done directly in slack, but honestly I don't see anything I don't like about Geekbot so far.
It's also a bit of a shame that the free version is only up to 10, we have a small budget as indie developers and would really appreciate that extra expense

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

It took me 5 minutes to setup the standup and add all my little details and settings, it posts everyone's reports in our dedicated channel and people can check those out whenever in a clear and easy way. We ask "Do you need to talk to anyone ?" each day, and people tag whoever it is they have to talk to. Easy and super useful.
It solved the issue of people on different timezones forgetting to fill up their standup every morning

Geekbot is extremely easy to use. It is excellent to keep our remote team (across 5 timezones) in the loop. We cannot live without the daily standups now :)

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot is great for checking in with my coworkers to create a sense of community as we typically experience in a traditional workplace. Specifically, we use the feature that prompts us all to check in about how we're doing each day so that we know where everyone stands mentally and emotionally. This feature is not only good for understanding ow our fellow coworkers are doing, but also for holding ourselves accountable by responding to these prompts every day.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

We've only used the trial version of Geekbot so far, so there is not much to dislike about the features that we are using.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

As previously mentioned, we have been using Geekbot mainly for daily Standup updates from each of our interns and coworkers to make sure that everyone is transparent and on the same page regarding wellbeing, projects, and obstacles.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Their personalization is really remarkable - you can make the stand-ups feel really personalized for your team. Tips are also a great feature. Slack messages feel really personal. Just overall outstanding.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Timezone reminders are a little buggy right now, sometimes I don't get the pings in the mornings which is odd when my team members get it.

I would love to see free plan for small teams like us - 10 people in team. I can not see any other dislikes.

What do you like about Geekbot?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Geekbot understands that since they flawlessly integrate Slack for the collaborative part, while implementing a super easy interface for admin customization. Simple + efficient = brilliant.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Pricing is pretty stiff. Since we use only one feature, segmented pricing (for small startups as ourselves) would be appreciated. Every dollar counts in times of pandemic, after all.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

It's pretty much the cornerstore of our office life since the pandemic/remote obligations we now have. Standups feel like a breeze now, with their simple Slack bot asking you every morning the question you need answers for, as a team.

What do you like about Geekbot?

I can get to know my teammates better when we work remotely. Geekbot facilitates icebreaker questions and encourages participation by directly DM-ing the relevant people, before sharing your answer to the publishing channel.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

There is no option to customize your plan, if only certain kinds of Standup templates are needed. ie. only Pizza Questions (icebreaker style)

easy to set up check in questions, and to synthesize the data from it. allows me to ping students assynchronously about how they are doing, and address concerns and where they would like more coverage on topics in class. Also allows them to see where other students are, building a community of learning!

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

a little pricey for education use. i can see how this pricing it appropriate for businesses, but it would be nice to have education tier pricing as well.

I need to teach 9 teams a class using Agile. Geekbot is a great way to get the Daily Standup into a single place, have a single experience for all students, and have a way for me to easily see students who may need hekp

Nothing yet. Cheaper is always better in community colleges. Perhaps as I use it more I will gain more insight into improvements.

What do you like about Geekbot?

We have been trying many products and methods in order to effectively conduct our daily standups digitally. However nothing quite worked until one of our employees suggested we try geekbot. SInce then it's been smooth sailing for our daily standups

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Would be great witha personal weekend feature to not get prompted for questions. Our issue is that we operate in Dubai and Europe which has weekends on Friday Saturday vs Saturday Sunday.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We used it for our daily standups and Geekbot solved this by making it super easy for everyone to give a proper update

I got it running in less than 30 minutes. It worked as I expected, and people got the hang of its purpose quickly.

There are some texts that I can't customize (i.e. settings). I would like to be able to translate it to my native language.

Some functionality have to be expanded. Right now it's young product.
The rest functionality is great

What I love about Geeky is that he allows me to stay on top of what my employees are doing every day, how are they feeling and what tasks they are achieving which is great for accountability.

What do you like about Geekbot?

We have used geekbot for 6 months or more and it's very helpful. Everything is customizable, the support is very fast and, besides that, it generates reports about the teams and the tasks that are in progress. I recommend it!

What do you like about Geekbot?

All the standups are customizable. You can have many teams as you like, each with a different standup, including questions and schedules.

We've used it daily in our team for more than 6 months and it's totally part of our daily routine.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

The leak of support for some languages on default answers. You can skip some questions or the entire report, but you have to use the specific keywords. Customize those words would be great.

What do you like about Geekbot?

We are a distributed team across 3 countries, and we are doing our daily standups and retrospectives using Geekbot. The best part about it is, it is quite easy to get started and once you set it up it just works! I really like the simplicity of the tool, which basically increases the adoption rate within the team dramatically.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

There were one or two times where the application didn't send our messages right at the time, but even though there were latencies the messages still got delivered and these were pretty small issues.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We have been using it as a team to manage our online Scrum ceremonies, which allows us to gather our thoughts before our online meetings and keep everything documented. Geekbot is nice, and it allows us to move forward without dealing with pushing everyone to post their updates and collecting them in a structured manner, Geekbot handles all of these for us.

What do you like about Geekbot?

The accountability it creates by keeping team members engaged and work done transparent as well as bringing to light any impediments.

The dashboard, api, webhooks, and data all help in keeping good records to measure velocity alongside burndown charts and other tools.

The staff have been very helpful.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

It would be nice if you could include a dashboard for Product Owners to show activity.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

Using Geekbot as part of a Asynchronous Scrum team developing a mobile health application.

• Love the engagement survey/reminder to nudge
• Pleasant/engaging customer support
• Quick reply status for repeating the same status from the previous day

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

• Doesn't always start on time
• Suffered from extensive delays a few times (20-30 minutes between questions)
• Unable to manage other standups (I purchased for several teams but I'm unable to see/configure their settings)
• Response times from customer support are a bit slow even via intercom (expect 1-2 business days, sometimes longer)
• Timeline performance (dashboard view) for summarization sometimes lags

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We used to have daily standups in person but some people are soft-spoken, so it became difficult to keep everyone engaged or respond to issues as they came up. Our velocity was slow and coordination began to degrade -- within a week of switching to geekbot everything improved drastically.

What do you like about Geekbot?

I like the UI to manage standup. I like the dead simple integration with Slack and all of the slack commands you can use to pause standup updates (like if you're on vacation), and to start new standup reports. I like that Geekbot does everything we need it to do without additional complexity.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

Occasionally I will notice that the standup prompt doesn't happen exactly when I've set it to. It is usually not much later (a couple of minutes), but it's the only complaint I can think of.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

I work for a 100% distributed remote company, and therefor the team I manage is spread all over the globe. Geekbot works really well for us. When I sign on in the morning, I can see all of the updates from my teammates in Asia and Europe and any conversations that resulted from their updates. It really helps the team maintain consistent communication and we always include a fun question ("What was something awesome you did outside of work yesterday?") Which helps us continue to get to know our teammates better. I also like that we have this standup in a "public" channel on our company slack, so anyone else in the company can see what's going on and chime in.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Having a remote team is difficult and Geekbot makes our daily standup an easy and convenient way to keep a pulse on the team. We have only just scratched the surface on the functionality but excited to continue to explore.

Having to pay for services is never ideal, but GB provides much more functionality than some of the free versions we tried.

What do you like about Geekbot?

In Chicas en Tecnologia we found it difficult to find a moment in which to sit down and see what the team was working on a daily basis. So it was difficult to identify emergencies or actions to take against certain objectives and things to do.
We started using Geekbot from Slack and it helped us a lot to organize ourselves, to see the work that each one does, to do things in a dynamic way. It is a very useful tool.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot is by far the best Daily Standup app for slack! I'm attending college and have a Software Engineering group project. Our group needed a Daily Standup slack bot to make our Standups easier and we had tried two others before with bad luck. Standup Alice gave us so many problems so we switched to Geekbot and we could not be happier!! Geekbot has been excellent and I've recommended it to other teams at school who have equally loved it. I highly recommend it!!

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

I have nothing to complain about, we have not had one issue with Geekbot and I definitely recommend giving it a try.

I like how easy it is to setup your daily and reminders.
It is also very useful the repository of all publications and how you can navigate on it. The price is also good for me, since it is cheaper than other similar platforms.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

What I dislike could be applied to other competitors. I think asynchronus bots should leave you more freedom, provide you the "What I am I going to do today" of the previous day as "What did you do yesterday" of the current day and other improvements like that.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Geekbot it's a powerful tool to remind the whole team individuals they need to communicate their progresses. I know, it's kind of obvious everyone should remember to communicate and give accountability of their work, however as the team grows is difficult for managers to keep everyone on that page and that's where geekbot adds value automatizing any kind of reporting activity that is relevant. Super recommend!!!!

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

The price is quiet expensive for startups based in countries like ours, where currency is devaluated.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

It reduced the problem of a lack of transparency/accountability of the team members, and added a consistent way for them to report asynchronously....

Geekbot has made it easier for our remote team to stay connected to eachother.

Using Geekbot is so simple and straightforward and feels like it fits in naturally into our remote working lifestyle.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

The price of $3 per user seems a bit high as we grow more. I would be much happier paying for tiered pricing that allows up to x users.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We're a small team spread across North America. It's been a challenge for us to feel like we're working together at times since each of us is working on a different part of the project. Geekbot has made the team feel more tight-knit.

What do you like about Geekbot?

Working at a busy creative development agency can be chaotic, and running one can be even crazier. Managing multiple global clients and teams in various locations can be a cumbersome process especially when it comes to organising daily stand ups on various time zones. That is where Geekbot has come in to save the day, by allowing us to alert the team members at 09:00 to update Geekbot with their notes for the project, this then collates and sends a detailed summary to the PM and the key account stake holders.

What do you dislike about Geekbot?

I would suggest maybe adding a feature for the PM or team to interject when another team member raises a blocking point or issue so it pauses sending further updates to an action has been agreed.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Geekbot solve?

We have primarily used Geekbot to manage mobile application development projects.

We are 4 people in the team and Geekbot helps us stay in touch with each one progress. We scheduled the Bot for each person in the team and we all got updates about the progress. Love it.

We're a distributed team and want to break down the culture of facetime and nine-to-five work. Geekbot helps us run our daily asynchronous standups, which allow our team to work on their own schedule. We also do weekly updates with Geekbot so our meetings are about discussing and questioning items, not simply providing updates. This makes us a much more efficient and effective team and we couldn't do it without Geekbot!
