What is Twingate?

Twingate secures remote access to private apps, data and environments. Twingate replaces corporate VPNs with a more secure, usable and performant zero trust solution.

Twingate is a zero trust networking service that allows businesses to secure remote access to their private apps, data, and environments. Built to make the lives of DevOps, IT, and end users easier, it replaces outdated VPNs which were not built to handle remote working and cloud-based assets which are widespread in today’s businesses.

Twingate’s modern approach to securing remote access to both cloud-based and on-premise resources focuses on improving security, usability, and maintainability. Distinguishing highlights of Twingate include:

  • Deploys in minutes without changing existing infrastructure.
  • Enables least privilege access at the granular app level, not the coarser network level.
  • Gain control and visibility over the entire enterprise network with centralized management and logging.
  • Scale up without worrying about network segmentation or buying and installing new hardware.
  • Client agents are always on and do not require user interaction.
  • User connectivity is improved due to split tunneling, no backhauling, and an intelligent client agent that handles authorization and routing activities.

"Corporate VPN era is over!"

What do you like about Twingate?

Twingate checked all of our boxes for a remote access solution and we recommend it. We used to have a legacy VPN that struggled to cope when our entire company started working remotely due to COVID-19 (both from a performance and reliability perspective). As a company that serves millions of users in the security space, we also continually look to improve our security posture – VPN was always a potential vulnerability given that our VPN gateways were open to the world. Twingate helped address these issues and, on top of that, it was very easy to implement compared to other solutions we looked at – we put 300 of our people (spread over 3 continents) on Twingate within a day. It also became much easier for us to manage user access controls over network resources than before. We use Twingate for private access to an on-prem network as well as cloud VPCs in AWS.

What do you dislike about Twingate?

Twingate appears to regularly add new functionality to their product, but one currently missing feature we look forward to is being able to control access at the port level. Twingate is also more of a pure-play remote access solution and they don’t yet have other security products like web filtering, firewall, etc.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Twingate solve?

Twingate solves the problem of ensuring that our fully-remote global workforce has remote access to company resources that is secure and reliable for our employees to use. We use Twingate to control access to all the resources on our private network/VPCs.

With Twingate, we no longer have to worry about keeping public VPN gateways patched, and our users report that they forget Twingate is running because it just works and doesn’t have the same reliability and performance issues that our old VPN had.

"Access management for cloud-based resources"

What do you like about Twingate?

- Access management for our AWS resources is now much easier via Twingate's web admin dashboard. Before that, my teams were constantly wrestling with getting our users on VPN or maintaining everyone's home IP addresses in an allow list. Glad to be using the latest and greatest for our WFH teams!
- 2FA via Google Login or OKTA.
- Easy to onboard external team members (contractors, partners, clients, etc).
- Was easily approved by my partner security teams to use alongside their VPN client with no conflicts.
- Zero-trust Security - a must have capability these days!
- You pay for for User, not Client or Resources - easy to roll out to all devices used by your users.

What do you dislike about Twingate?

The Linux client was only recently released, so it took a while for my entire engineering team to get on-boarded. Twingate's customer support has been great, and they expedited Linux support based on our feedback.

"Easy remote access for WFH teams, great customer service"

What do you like about Twingate?

Twingate makes it super easy for me to connect to our company's servers and databases in AWS, internal dashboards on self-hosted Tableau and since it integrates with G-suite I feel safer because of 2FA. Worked out-of-the-box on Mac, iOS and Windows for me. Love that I no longer have to constantly worry about losing access when my IP changes, and that I can use it even while on LTE/3G on my phone!

What do you dislike about Twingate?

Had a little trouble with my Windows installation, but got some great customer support and was able to get my issue resolved within a couple of hours. Really appreciate good service from software companies.
