StorPool is storage software. It runs on standard hardware (servers, drives, and networks) and turns them into high-performance storage systems. StorPool aggregates the capacity AND performance of many drives from many servers into one shared pool of storage, distributed between the servers. It is block-level storage and replaces storage arrays (SANs) or other inferior storage software (SDS 1.0 solutions).
StorPool is far superior to traditional storage arrays in both technical and business terms—reliability, scalability, performance, flexibility, efficiency, and cost. Compared to other storage software solutions, StorPool has very high performance, exceptional efficiency, scalability, and simplicity.
Typical customers are Cloud builders—Public and Private. StorPool is a preferred choice for storing block-level data or providing shared storage capabilities. StorPool can reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) several times. StorPool can be licensed on a recurring (“pay-as-you-go”, OpEx) or a perpetual (one-off, CapEx) basis.

Simplicity and compatibility – StorPool is intuitive and can be managed with minimal training. StorPool also proved to be very scalable and easy to deploy.
As our business grew, the number of servers grew as well. Management and lack of flexibility became a problem. Our initial experiments with building a private cloud were promising, but we needed a shared storage system. In our experience hardware storage solutions are expensive to buy and run, so we started looking into soſtware defined storage solutions. We now have a high-performance shared storage system for our private cloud, which can scale-out when we need more capacity. The downtime virtually disappeared, which led to an increase in customer’s satisfaction. Additionally, StorPool’s storage solution is intuitive and easy to operate, which is a significant time saver.
We chose StorPool not just because of the better price/performance ratio, but also because StorPool managed to offer us smooth implementation without an impact on our production environment. StorPool’s biggest advantages are the high availability of the system, hardware failure handling, and performance. The OpenNebula integration and ease of operation were also crucial.
The monitoring and statistics UI is a bit clumsy, although StorPool is working on a new version.
We needed a solution, which could enable us to provide cost-efficient block storage in our virtualization layers. Our old setups lacked performance and flexibility. We were in need of a solution, which can be also implemented without any impact on the production environment. StorPool provides high transaction performance for systems like databases, without the disadvantages of local SSD RAID systems, but with similar performance. The maintenance efforts are much lower than with comparable systems due to the stable „self-maintenance“ of Storpool (self-healing, failover etc.). This allows us to put fewer efforts into the maintenance of the storage system
