OutSystems Review

Editors' Review by the Development Software Review Team

OutSystems is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) low-code platform that is used to develop, manage and deliver mobile and web applications. The software runs in the cloud or on-premise and is intended to help developers create and deliver apps faster and more efficiently. OutSystems is a RAD or Rapid Application Development platform that uses single-click functionality for deployment.

The software also allows developers to apply changes to the apps even after they have been deployed. Likewise, it easily and seamlessly integrates with existing systems.

As a low-code platform, OutSystems is easy to use and requires users to have only a little knowledge of programming. You won’t have to possess complex IT skills, so you can actually develop and deliver an application on your own.

The drag-and-drop interface will help you build applications without having to write complex syntax and codes.

Since OutSystems is a low-code platform, it transforms time-consuming and challenging manual tasks to an automated system. This does not only make app development simpler and more convenient, it also leaves you more room and time to perform other equally important tasks.

Furthermore, OutSystems makes it possible for developers to ensure app development, management and delivery continuously and seamlessly.

OutSystems Features

OutSystems, as a RADP software solution, is equipped with everything you need to develop, manage and deliver applications in the most convenient way possible. It has the right environment and comes with all the tools—and even mobile capabilities—necessary for efficient app development.

Some of the software’s most essential features are:

Full-stack visual development

This feature is one of the things that make low-code platforms like OutSystems easy and convenient to use. The drag-and-drop user interface is the most important of all, especially for users who are not that well-versed with coding.

Single-click deployment

With OutSystems, you need only a single click to set everything into motion. With one click, you can deploy the apps easily. Also, you won’t have to worry about doing heavy technical stuff because the software will automatically do the work for you—and that includes the deployment tasks.

The visual environment really helps make the experience more convenient.

Low-code functionality for app development

OutSystems gives you the ease of use as it requires only very minimal coding. The processes and workflows are automated as well. So working on your applications won’t be a challenge even if you’re not IT-trained.

Integration

OutSystems integrates with all existing applications and systems, including CRM and ERP solutions, applications and enterprise systems.

The software is also compatible and functions with Eclipse and Microsoft Virtual Studio.

Responsive UI and screen templates

OutSystems knows what a seamless experience is all about. For starters, it has quite a number of UI Patterns that you can easily use with the help of the drag-and-drop functionality of the platform. You can also choose from templates that will help you create interfaces.

You can actually decide which one is easier for you: creating your own code or working with OutSystems’ many beautiful pre-built templates.

A responsive platform like OutSystems makes it easy for you to work on different devices—i.e. mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Real-time data

This feature allows you to monitor and manage the performance as well as the usage of your applications. Getting this information in real-time is going to be a big help in determining which ones work best or what you need to improve on. Real-time data and reports also provide you with insights that can help you understand your visitor’s and audiences’ behaviors.

Also, you’ll have access to dashboards and reports that can be customized according to your preferences. OutSystems works with analytics that help make all these possible.

Built-in security

OutSystems has its own integrated security. As such, it is easy to notice problems and leaks. Likewise, you’ll be able to determine if there are bugs or errors. It is important to make sure that you avoid generating codes ridden with errors.  It also helps that the software has its own debugging engine.

Data control

These features allow you to enjoy functionalities like data synchronization, data security and data migration.

Data synchronization can help with all the data updates you need. Data migration, on the other hand, helps provide you with data extracted from other sources. This is useful particularly in the early stages of the application development process.

Data security, of course, helps keep the entire system protected from external parties that want to steal your data.

Other OutSystems features include multilingual support, Native support for agile development, permission management, DevOps automation, customized branding and asset management.

"Great low code platform"

// Web Developer at Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company

What do you like about OutSystems?

You can do it by yourself to begin, or you can delve into the expert variation and see architecture recomandations, style and use, server efficiency and whatever else.No requirement for any specific set of abilities to do a complete stack application. It can be a someone task, or a complete group dealing with the item.

What do you dislike about OutSystems?

While the platform makes it simple to deal with any web or mobile difficulty it might take advantage of an integrated in report author. For the majority of this is not a problem as they have a reporting engine and given that OutSystems produces native applications they can quickly take advantage of these tools however they are outside the platform that makes them a sluggish obstruction in the wheel.

What have you been using it for and what problems did OutSystems solve?

Service wishes to have actually the applications provided quickly with good UI. Utilizing Outsystems, this was quickly attained and visual programs permits the designer to do many of the QA screening too.
