What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a teamwork hub that enables users to invite everyone they work with to chat, meet, call, and collaborate all in one place, no matter where they are.

  • Chat from anywhere
Share your opinion, and your personality. Send gifs, stickers, and emojis in a group chat or in one-to-one messages.

  • Meet from anywhere
Instantly go from group chat to video conference with the touch of a button. Teams of 10 or 10,000 can meet in one place, no matter how many places they’re in.

  • Call from anywhere
Never yell “who just joined?!” ever again. Use Teams calling, Phone System, Calling Plan1, or Direct Routing to take the stress out of conference calls.

  • Collaborate from anywhere
Never do that frantic, searching-for-files thing ever again. In Teams you can access, share, and edit Word docs, PowerPoint, and Excel files in real time.

Microsoft Teams currently scores 89/100 in the Internal Communications category. This is based on user satisfaction (86/100), press buzz (77/100), recent user trends (falling), and other relevant information on Microsoft Teams gathered from around the web.

Microsoft Teams Review

Editors' Review by the Internal Communications Software Review Team

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based software solution available to subscribers of the Office 365 Enterprise and Business plans. It is primarily intended for workplace chat, video meetings as well as file storage and sharing. Microsoft Teams is a platform for more streamlined communications for business groups that allow for real-time collaboration among devices, including laptops and mobile phones.

The software can be downloaded on mobile and desktop devices through application store and can likewise be accessed via a web browser. If you access via the web browser, you will see a primary navigation bar on the left housing the tabs Activity, Chat, Teams, Calls and Files.

Activity is where all conversations with mentions and tags are stored. Chat is for one-on-one or private messaging. Teams is an organized hub where the correspondences between team members occur, including the team files, posts and minutes from team meetings are posted. Another navigation bar provides a summary of the chosen tab from the first navigation bar.

At the center of the monitor is the application’s interaction center where the conversations are shown. Calls can either be audio only or with video. During video calls, you can allow your team members to view your presentations or notes via the screen-sharing option.

The three-dot ellipsis contains the applications that are installed for integration and storage.

Microsoft Teams Features

The Microsoft Teams features integrate into a robust workplace communication center. The incorporation of the video conferencing software with Microsoft 365 created a comprehensive user experience that is unique to the application.

Meetings and conferences

This feature enables users to host online meetings such as video conferences, streaming for live events and audio conferences covering all aspects from pre- to post-meeting requirements. Teams can supply each attendee with the meeting agenda and provide everyone with meeting minutes after the session. Meetings can even be recorded and an automatic transcription can be played back for reference when creating the meeting minutes. The meeting minutes can be uploaded in the appropriate category in the Teams tab.

Voice and video calling

This Teams feature allows for making and receiving calls within the application. Users can conduct VoIP calls and video conferences, although most conversations are done through instant messaging. Maximum limit of participants is 10,000, an increase from the 5,000 limit before April 2020.

There are options for putting calls on hold, and blind and safe transfers. Microsoft Teams voice and video calling requires a phone system. Calls made via the Teams application has 35 functions for a seamless business call, such as call escalation to switch from a one on one call to a group call without hanging up.

Direct dialing and Microsoft calling plans via Microsoft 365 are available for Teams-compatible phone systems.

Instant messaging

Message exchanges in Chat are stored and made accessible within the feature, as opposed to the chats in Skype for Business where messages are instead stored in Conversation History, a folder that is separate from the chat room. Mentions and tags appear in the conversation, but those particular messages can be found in the Activity tab for quick reference and storage. You can attach the available GIFs, stickers and emoticons to your messages for personalization.

Your team will have access to shared documents under the Files tab including images and videos that were uploaded in the channels. There are also options to create shared folders as well as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, among others, within the OneDrive feature.

Extensive integrations

This feature presents a number of options for maximizing Microsoft Teams capabilities through automation of workflows. The company partnered with video conferencing brands, so live video can be efficiently shared from mobile phones during meetings and projected into the Teams application.

In addition, it launched the Microsoft Teams app store, where you can search for third-party apps to use with your workflows. The App Studio was launched in January 2018 so developers and businesses can create apps using Teams.

Remote learning

Microsoft recently launched Teams for Education, where students engage in virtual school activities. The 7×7 grid view can accommodate up to 49 participants on a single screen. The application can also hold virtual Breakout Rooms for activities involving small groups.

Other features are Raise Their Hands, Attendance Reports and Class Insights with data analytics that show students’ engagement and activity metrics, rate of assignments turned in and grades.

A restriction for students’ unattended use of the application is in place for security and classroom management.

Healthcare

This Teams feature allows for priority notification for urgent messages every two to 20 minutes until a response is received. Nurses or clinic staff can forward messages to delegated staff in case they are attending to a patient or are tied up in the ER.

The Healthcare Bot service helps an organization deploy virtual health assistants in addition to an automated symptom-checker. Secure access to patient records, note-taking, video meeting and message handling are some of the features for care coordination that can be done within the system.

Workflow can be managed within the application including scheduled meetings, note taking and meeting transcription. "MS Teams: A Revolutionary Way to Connect and Collaborate"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is an incredibly useful collaboration tool that can be used to streamline communication, collaboration, and project management between teams and individuals. I've been using MS Teams to coordinate and communicate with my colleagues on various projects.

The greatest strength of MS Teams is its user-friendly interface. It’s easy to set up teams, add members, and assign tasks. The chat features make it easy for members to stay in touch, and the file-sharing capabilities ensure that all members have access to the necessary documents. I also love the integrated calendar, which makes it easy to keep track of important dates and deadlines.

It is very easy to use and understand, even for those with little to no knowledge of computer technology. Furthermore, the wide range of features, such as chat, audio/video calls, document sharing, and file storage, make it an ideal choice for those who need to collaborate on projects remotely.

Another great feature of MS Teams is its integration with Microsoft Office 365. This makes it easier for us to access documents from other Office 365 applications, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. This is especially useful for those who are working remotely and need to collaborate on projects with others in different locations.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a great collaboration and communication tool, but there are some aspects of it that I find difficult to work with. One of them is the fact that it can be difficult to organize conversations, especially when trying to keep track of large numbers of people and conversations. Additionally, the interface can be a bit confusing and hard to navigate, and the lack of customization options can make it difficult to tailor the experience to a specific team's needs. Finally, I also find the notifications system to be inadequate, as it often fails to alert users when messages or changes occur. All in all, Microsoft Teams is a great tool to have, but there are some aspects that could be improved upon.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

I've been using Teams for collaboration and communication between my team and I in our day-to-day operations. Microsoft Teams has allowed us to easily organize our tasks, access and share documents from anywhere, and stay connected with our team even when we are not in the office. It's also given us the ability to chat in real-time and stay connected with our team members, no matter where they are.

Microsoft Teams has helped us solve many of our communication issues. Before, it was difficult to keep everyone on the same page and ensure everyone was up-to-date on tasks and deadlines. With Teams, we can easily organize conversations, tasks, and documents in one place, making it much easier for us to stay on top of everything. It's also been great for remote collaboration, as we can easily communicate with each other without having to be in the same place.

Overall, I'm very pleased with Microsoft Teams and highly recommend it for any team that needs to stay organized and connected. It's made our day-to-day operations much smoother and more efficient.

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

I have used the video call function to meet with my team. The picture and sound quality has always been excellent, allowing me to have effective and productive meetings with my colleagues, even when we have had to work remotely. In addition, the screen and document sharing feature has been very useful for presenting ideas and collaborating on projects in real time. All in all, Microsoft Teams has been a very useful tool for me to stay connected and collaborate with my team.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

The downside of Microsoft Teams is that it can sometimes be slow to load or perform certain actions. Also, the real-time translation option is not always accurate. Still, these drawbacks are not too frequent and, overall, Microsoft Teams has been a very useful and reliable tool for me.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

Overall, my experience with Microsoft Teams has been very positive. It has helped me to stay connected and collaborate efficiently with my team at work, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when we had to work remotely. "My opinion on Microsoft Teams"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

Since Microsoft Teams is part of Office 365, there is no additional cost. You can easily use OneDrive in the Teams environment through this connection. No additional ID is required. Teams environment contains all the hardware, tools, collaborators and interactions. You will always have access to relevant information because Microsoft Teams is offered in desktop and mobile editions. SharePoint, OneNote, and Skype for Business can also be accessed through Teams, but Word, Excel, Trello, and PowerPoint can also be added.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

One downside to the Teams encryption process is that it's fully controlled by Microsoft, not our organization. If protection is important for your organization, it would be interesting to also look into protection technologies to add to the Microsoft Teams account.
While integrations with third-party apps can be seen as a benefit for users, they don't make it much easier for administrators.
This isn't a real downside, but more of a food for thought. Indeed, the Teams videoconferencing interface is a little less intuitive than for competing software, which can be a barrier to adoption for some users.

"Microsoft Teams: just what every Team needs"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

The most important aspect Microsoft Teams offers is integration with Office 365, a link to the company's Azure server, the ability to create tests, quizzes, and forms, create fast and easy surveys, and grade assignments, I mean this is a one in a million application. I just love it.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

Despite all the upgrades and updates, it still misses, on the desktop version, the ability to allow multiple address sign-ins at the same time I mean, on the mobile version, I have all my emails stored and can jump from one to the other and on the computer I cannot.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

During the pandemic and the lockdown, TEAMS was the go-to application we used to continue online courses. Also, it is widely used within our organization for internal communication and file transfer. Surveys are also a huge part, especially when we need specific information from the families of our students.

" All in one Teams"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

Overall I liked and preferred Microsoft Teams over other Team applications. I’m happy that our project to migrate to Office365 and setup the Team collaboration chat functionality worked better with Microsoft Teams. I integrated Microsoft teams to help our team share files, share screen, Setup meetings with internal/external users and companies, record calls and practice daily/weekly work

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

I have found Microsoft Teams mobile app with limited functionality with calendar and some other integrated features. Desktop app is well maintained and more features should be added for mobile app.
I do find some notification settings hard to control when you are part of multiple channels. I do not get to fully utilize the assignment aspect of the Microsoft Teams. The video features on it may do a bit more improvement. My camera quality seems a bit lower here compared to other platforms. The presentation feature seems to be in need of improvement. It is hard to view both the application and the presentation at the same time which makes it difficult to present at the same time.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

Perfect tool for team collaboration.
Teams app helps us work remotely and avoid most obstacles that we were experienced when we manage the remote team members. Teams can be installed on all most all the platforms iOS, Windows, macOS, etc.
We switched from GSuit to Office365 so we had to migrate our Chat application. Also we found Microsoft Teams that time more effective then GSuit itself.
It is integrated with application like office 365, Yammer, wiki and share point access to share documents,

"Microsoft Teams has always been useful but even more so over the past year"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

We use Microsoft Teams as our internal communication tool through the chat feature and also for internal and external meetings. The user interface and design has improved quite a bit since we started making greater use of the software since last year in April. I like how I can see my microsoft outlook calendar in the teams application making it much easier and faster to see which teams calls specifically which I have coming up and am able to join them faster as well.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

The only thing I dislike about Microsoft Teams is how we cannot pause screenshare. I use Zoom every now and then who have this feature and find it very useful so it would be great for Microsoft Teams should they add it one day.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

"My Experience With Teams"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

I like the fact that i am able to have classes online without worrying about catching the virus. I also like the interactive board feature that is present in the software. it allows everyone to make their individual additions from the comfort of their home. also teams allows us to use the breakout rooms and can interact with different groups without everyone knowing each groups business. i like that i have the ability to mute some people as well remove them from the meating. this especially comes in handy when dealing with insolent individuals.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

i dont like the fact that teams does not allow mobile devices to share their audio. not everywhere i will be able to bring my laptop and a share audio feature for mobile devices would come in handy. i also dislike the delay between video and audio when sharing videos sometimes. the mic icon being displayed on the screen becomes a bother for smaller screen devices. the whiteboard sometimes gives issues when trying to rotate screen especially when using text box. the ring tone when being called in is also a bit annoying. also i dont like that when i am called in the meeting on mobile devices my mic joins unmuted. this can be embarrassing at times when your background is not favourable for the setting.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

I have been using Microsoft Teams as a college student to attend classes. the platform made it possible to still have classes without the fear of contracting the virus for me and at the same time feel as if i am in an actual classroom. i have uses other software for the same reason and by far Microsoft teams has been the best of them all. i was having challenges reaching many lecturers and since they started using the platform all our issues have been some resolved.

"Microsoft Teams Review"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft teams have many improvements over Skype for business, it allows you to but your attention on work topics, thru the communication channels, we can schedule video or audio meetings with one person or whole team, you can also schedule meeting with large number of attenders or webinars, guests can join using the web browser they don’t need to download the app to attend the calls, teams also integrates with the rest of Microsoft apps and other apps as well like "Twitter" which is very handy feature, it also comes with other essential video conference features like screen sharing, video recording, live captions, etc. Teams has the flexibility in terms of team collaboration and sharing, there is the desktop app, web app, and mobile app, thus you can join your calls from almost anywhere. It’s ideal solution for businesses who already use Microsoft 365 service.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

I found it sometimes hard to locate a file in the channel, the organization of the files is not so clear, the user interface and back-end settings can be a bit overwhelming at first, particularly for administrators. Because it have many features and integrations, it may take a while to learn the app. The user permissions need to be fixed, sometimes you need to differentiate permissions among the users in certain channels but that is not possible in Teams right now. Also, the mobile app is not as easy to use as the desktop version, it needs to be more simplified. For the price Teams can be expensive solution if purchased as standalone product, but when comes as part of Microsoft office 365, it would be cost-effective solution. In terms of customer support, the wait time is too much to access the live chat, which can be annoying sometimes.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

As a subscriber for Microsoft office 365, we have been introduced with teams recently, I think Teams will replace Skype for business later, it a new communication and collaboration tool added to the office 365 suit, it’s designed to be an all in one workplace communication app, I've used Teams for about 4 months so far, I think it great app which allows you to organize your work in channel which focus on the topics related to that specific channel, it also provides integration support with plenty of apps and services especially the Microsoft ones, and other 3rd party apps as well, like Twitter, but for companies who is not using Microsoft apps, they may not benefit from the integration between features of Microsoft and Teams, their use for the app would be limited, and the cost for the app may not be ideal.

"Good conferencing tool"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

I've always found a little smoother to use than other tools and like the fact that it syncs in with our Outlook calendar so you can create meetings within teams (which automatically provides the link) and then pulls back into Outlook as well. The integrations with external IM tools is good and the chat function within the interface is decent enough (for what it is) too.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

One main thing was the number of people you could see on a video conference at any one time (think it was 4) as this was pretty frustrating/limiting, but this has now been addressed and you can see up to 9.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Microsoft Teams solve?

We use it for both internal meetings when not in the same office (which has been a lot recently) and also for client meetings where it's not possible to meet face to face. The previous tool we used wasn't very easy to use, and though I have used other alternatives previously, Teams does everything we need it to, and does it pretty well too.

"Solid conferencing software for remote work"

What do you like about Microsoft Teams?

Teams provides a relatively simple to use team collaboration software. I find it particularly useful for conference calls and chat while working remotely.

What do you dislike about Microsoft Teams?

The conference calls don't have as much functionality as some other software. This makes doing more than having a simple meeting a bit of a challenge.
