Lightspeed is a cloud-based point of sale (POS) software solution for retailers and restaurants.

It helps businesses monitor their inventory and sales with its long list of features and functionalities that allow users to integrate in-person orders with online sales. 

Founded in 2005 to offer consumers a personalized, more convenient shopping experience online, Lightspeed is designed for iPad/iOS users.

It’s intended for small and medium-sized businesses but also offers specially customized packages for larger and more established enterprises.

Lightspeed is ideal for retail stores and specialty shops like home décor, apparel, pet needs, footwear, bike shops and rentals and even wine stores.

It is also good for repair shops of all types, such as those for jewelry and electronics.

Additionally, Lightspeed is also for restaurants of all types and sizes, ranging from full-service restaurants, cafes, bars, hotel restaurants and quick service dining shops.

Inventory

This feature will help you take care of your inventory without having to deal with tons of paperwork or rely on manual labor.

Customer profile

All packages are billed annually and come with retail POS and payment features complete with terminal.

Other features included in the package are eCommerce (except for the Basic package), loyalty (for Advanced and Pro options only), accounting (for Standard, Advanced and Pro packages only) and analytics (for Pro package only). 

Lightspeed Restaurant, on the other hand, has only two pricing options; Add-ons starting at $12 per month and Premium Add-ons with a monthly fee starting at $39.

POS add-ons for the first package include customer-facing display, self-order table menu, advanced reporting and kitchen display system.

Premium add-ons include accounting, loyalty app, delivery integration, loyalty features and self-order kiosk.

Enterprise plans for both Retail and Restaurant are available upon request.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

Very pleased with the complete service and support provided by Lightspeed POS. The integrations available with Deliverect and OrderAhead has definitely made our service run a lot smoother and simplified our process greatly. It's easy to add menu items and modify menu items. Would highly recommend!

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

Would like to have the option to use mobile phone (iPhone) to be able to take orders, otherwise the rest of the software works like a charm.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

It has been used mainly for delivery and take out orders and it has simplified things greatly, having it all in one single place and being able to easy track and analyze information. As well being able to access the data remotely from anywhere.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

I own a liquor store, and I switched to Lightspeed from a super old model Sam4S register. I am absolutely in LOVE with the inventory tracking which I can do from my new iPad setup or from the comfort of my couch at home! The reporting and analysis of my business mixed with real-time inventory has already saved me loads of hours on labor and has given me more time to consider marketing and other parts of my business that used to take a back burner! THANK YOU, LIGHTSPEED! 12/10 would recommend for any retail or restaurant/bar space!

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

I don't have a single complaint! Everything I have had trouble with, they have more than helped me resolve! Lightspeed customer service is outstanding!

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

I have used Lightspeed for my POS and for tracking inventory. Customer service helped me pick out hardware products that were compatible with ones I already owned. They tracked down a label printer I needed that was hard to find at the time. Lightspeed has answered numerous questions regarding the interface to customize things for my business.

This software is a must have for retail. The inventory and ordering process is extremely easy and the POS system is amazing and easy to learn.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

The only thing I dislike about this software is the lack of robustness on the eCommerce side of things. I feel like they should expand it to include more business types.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

I love how I can depend on Lightspeed to respond and solve problems quickly. They are very proactive about ensuring customer satisfaction and their support response has improved significantly since we first onboarded. They listen, they consider my feature suggestions, and have implemented many of them -- best of all, they let me know when it's done so I never feel like my comments are disregarded. it is clear that they value their customers and they do a great job of showing it.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

It's a little more complicated than most POS systems so the learning curve is a bit higher. That said, it does things that other POS does not do, so that balances it out. Also the inventory module doesn't replace our manual processes, I think that aspect is designed more for retail than how we would like to use it.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

We chose lightspeed because it integrates with our hotel booking engine. The other vendor doesn't score very high in the customer service department - they could take a few pages from LS's book!

What do you like about Lightspeed?

This system is very easy to set-up and use. Our staff finds it easy to navigate…this includes time keeping, ordering, finalizing payments, correcting items.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

Connectivity can been somewhat inconsistent. Also, sometimes the upgrades to the system aren’t always thought through.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

It is our restaurant POS system so it is very easy to have orders sent to the kitchen, finalize bills, tracking sales, categorizing items that are fast movers or not.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

I really like how they are always integrating with new products and brands. Just like us, staying up to date with other companies. Their customer service is unmatched. They are always willing to work with you. When covid hit things were slow and they called me with a solution to a lot of things that would drive people to my online store. They are more than a POS.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

There is not much that I do not like about them. I wish their price was a little less, but I understand why it is priced that way.

We like everything about LS! Occasionally we may come up with an idea on how to improve a process. Then, we submit our ideas.

Lightspeed enables me to run employee time cards, manage inventory, create unique SKU's, process credit cards, and have an Ecom presence all in one software solution.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

Lightspeed has made things easy by allowing us to choose which features and add-ons we implement. As the company has grown, we have taken advantage of more and more of their integrations. The ROI for this product has been excellent since many tasks are automated and need only a simple daily, weekly or monthly reconciliation. We currently use the POS, eCommerce, Accounting & Analytics functions and have integrated Quickbooks and Shipstation to directly communicate with Lightspeed. The data we are able to capture allows us to effectively plan and budget and the growing number of vendors who are integrating their inventory with Lightspeed means we are able to pull pricing and SKU data right from the system instead of manually entering it. There's constant development going on and the open API means we can create custom programs if we wish. The Customer service has always been helpful and is available 24/7 which is incredibly convenient for large off-hours projects.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

There are still a few workarounds that we are using, but Lightspeed has an open forum where ideas for improvements are able to be posted. Many of these have come to fruition so I'm sure there will be fixes for the workarounds we're currently using in the coming months.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

With our old system there was a lot of manual data entry and migration. With Lightspeed the data is communicated to our partner software (Analytics, QuickBooks, etc) on a daily basis freeing up valuable time for more important projects. The fact that Lightspeed is cloud-based and can be accessed from any internet-connected device is a huge asset since our previous system was local server based.

"User Friendly"


What do you like about Lightspeed?

I love how user friendly it is, I have a few employees who are 50+ who picked it up just as easily as my 20-30 year old employees. Customer service is excellent with a great search function as well as chat or phone help. Accessing inventory or looking at sales reports remotely is a huge bonus for me.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

Lack of integrated payment options is a bit frustrating, and on the off chance their servers are having issues, I can't make sales.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

I've been using it for in store sales, as well as eCommerce (yay Covid and curbside pickup). When I was forced to go curbside only it was really easy to set up my online shop.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

It is super easy to use and we can have an employee trained in one day. It also is completely connected to our website so our inventory is featured accurately online. We also integrate with online marketplaces using Sync2Sell and it has helped our online business boom.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

There really isn't anything bad about Lightspeed. There are improvements that are being made with their connection to Lightspeed eCom that will only make it better.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

By using Lightspeed, we went from having zero e-commerce presence to half of our business being online in just over 3 years.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

The inventory tracking, the invoicing, Quickbooks integration, time clock, rewards program, and the list goes on of all the awesome features! The customer service is top notch, they are always able to help if you have a question or an issue to resolve (which there are not a lot of issues!!). Highly recommend this!

It is so easy to use. We run our entire business using Lightspeed from point of sale to inventory control to our online store. Great value considering all that it does. Highly recommended for small retail businesses.

There isn't much to complain about. I would like to have the ability to add a not for each sale, but this is very minor issue.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

It was super easy to setup our Lightspeed POS system. We originally bought to integrate with another eCom service. However, after using the POS side, we purchased Lightspeed eCom too! Running a retail apparel store is tough, and Lightspeed makes it a dream! Our inventory is kept up-to-date and syncs easily with our other business critical software.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

I would like to upload customer data myself. At this time, to upload customer data in bulk, I have to send the data to Lightspeed for import.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

I currently use both Lightspeed eCom & Retail (Omni-channel). This helps our retail store and online store stay synced and makes life easier for employees. Now, all POS sales and eCom sales are in one platform that is easy to use for our employees. If a customer purchases an item in our retail store, ecommerce inventory stays updated.

Lightspeed is very easy to use, and easy to teach. Our employees are happy with the speed and navigation features in the POS system and we've found it super helpful in our sales process. The reporting/inventory features are also robust, yet simple and intuitive enough to hit the ground running.

What do you like about Lightspeed?

I like that Lightspeed is very intuitive. From the very beginning during on boarding to everyday use it is simple and easy to use. They have a very extensive help library and very professional customer care team.

What do you dislike about Lightspeed?

I really can't think of anything that I dislike. The reports are probably the only thing that I struggle with. But I think that is because I don't use expanded reports often enough. The day to day reports again are simple.

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lightspeed solve?

We use Lightspeed for our complete day to day operations. It has made inventory management a breeze.
