Litmos Review

Editors' Review by the Learning Management System (LMS) Software Review Team

Litmos is a cloud-hosted software solution for e-learning, also known as a learning management system software. Litmos is primarily used to address any training need a company has over the internet. The software is able to automate external and internal learning programs, but despite this, is still simple and easy to use. The software was designed with middle market companies in mind as well as established enterprises. However, it does not mean it is entirely focused on the bigger corporations, as Litmos still has packages that are geared towards workforces as small as a 50-man crew.

Litmos has no specific changes that need to be done on the software ecosystem of the company in order to run it. The software also allows users to create courses that customers are able to directly interact with. It is also easily accessible from any device. Users may also do this by importing different content from third-party sources. Aside from the previously stated features, it also has a wide knowledge base of reference documents and other learning materials for users to take advantage of. Litmos also caters to several countries and supports multiple languages. It is a continuous learning platform that combines learning management, prepackaged content, and content management systems to fulfill companies’ training needs.

Litmos Features

Online course builder and commerce

Litmos allows users to build and plan their custom online course. Users are able to embed content creation tools that support a number of formats and course content is added in the form of modules. Created courses are given a title, a description that shows on the learner’s side, and a reference code for searching that the learner will not see. Instructors can also allow learners to add this course to their course library so all other learners may be able to access it in the future or restrict it so only specific learners are able to access this function. Users are also able to monetize the courses on Litmos, using pre-packaged features, or setting up an online storefront.

Quizzes, learning paths, and assessments

This software product enables users to group multiple courses so they can create customized learning paths for learners. This feature proves useful when there are several courses that are needed by their specific batch of learners. The instructors are able to arrange a number of courses they think are pertinent to what they want to impart to their learners in a way that is both logical and efficient. Users are also able to create assessments and quizzes to gauge how much information the learners have retained, as well as reinforce concepts. Instructors are able to create a module with a specific title and to add questions of different question types and then add either a single correct answer or multiple correct answers.

Reports, notifications, and dashboards

Litmos enables users to review performance and get insight into how effective the training is with reports and dashboards. Users are also able to create custom reports delivered via email and get data from dashboards containing student and course progression. There, users also see which courses and learners are most active. Users are able to run reports on how many badges or points learners have gotten, and reports can also be downloaded or schedule as well.

Gamification, surveys, and feedback

Litmos allows instructors to engage and motivate learners with achievements, badges, and points. This system is based on the learner’s activity in the system. When instructors create new badges, they can assign badge names and assign a certain amount of points to the different badges. Instructors are also able to assign a color and add a certain image to the badge by selecting one of the pre-created images or uploading their personalized images. Handing out badges and other rewards for accomplishing something provides gamification of the entire experience, motivating the learners.

Litmos Benefits

Litmos does not limit the customer support depending on the pricing plan users choose to go with. The price depends solely on how many users are involved and what kind of learning support that companies wish to focus on. Litmos has also partnered with other third-party platforms to make it easier when attaining or purchasing lessons. The software has a large collection of integrations that allow users to easily implement it into their software environment, and there aren’t any specific changes that need to be done in order to run the software.

Litmos is easily implemented and it is easy to build and track completion of tasks or projects. What used to be manual and time-consuming tasks have become automated with the software’s built-in assignment engine, role-based security, and multiple upload capability. As it is a web-hosted software, there are no downloads or installations necessary. Users are able to access Litmos from their computer, laptop, or even mobile device, which means users or even their customers can access the software even when on the go.

Litmos Pricing

All Litmos accounts start out as 14-day trial accounts and at any time, the user is able to upgrade to a paid plan if they wish. Credit card details are only asked when upgrading to a paid plan. All three packages are billed annually, with both Pro and Litmos-plus-Salesforce pricing models having a 150-user minimum whereas the Pro plus Courses package has a 50-user minimum. If companies wish to go above 1,000 active users, they need to contact the vendor directly for a custom quote.

The first package is the Pro package. This one costs $4 per month per user for 151-500 active users or $3 per month per user for 501-1,000 active users. The features include instructor-led training modules and unlimited storage on the cloud. It also allows for custom branding and 30+ marketplace connectors, as well as a learner dashboard, tracking, and reporting. There is also a course builder and email and phone support available. Users may additionally create learning paths as well as add recommended courses. It also has a SOC type 2 highly secure environment and a single sign-on through marketplace connectors, as well as native mobile apps. Furthermore, it has multi-lingual instance capabilities and a SCORM & AICC Player.

The next package is called Pro + Courses. It costs $9 per month per user for 50-150 active users, $6 per month per user for 151-500 users, and $5 per month per user for 501-1,000 active users. This plan has everything the Pro Package offers but it also includes engaging learning modules and a plethora of learning resources. These include infographics, workbooks, pre-reading text, promotional materials, and offline activities. It also includes a constantly expanding course library (available in SCROM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and Tin Can) and additional courses added every month.

Another package is called Litmos plus Salesforce. It costs $6 per month per user for 150-500 active users and $5 per month per user for 501-1,000 active users. It includes everything that users can find in the Pro Plan and includes a Role Hierarchy Sync feature. In addition, it also has access to training courses on SFI mobile, training assignments from accounts and contacts, as well as packaged and customized Salesforce reports and dashboards. It also includes a Salesforce community connector, recommended courses in Salesforce, and new user provisioning.

There are also add-ons that users are able to purchase. The Automation bundle includes modules that allow users to automate and expand real-time functionality within Litmos. The module includes Litmos Assign, Litmos Persist, and live video assessments. The Multi-accounts add-on allows users to attain multiple Litmos sub-domains in one subscription. Each domain can be branded and customized, and a specific sub-domain may be promoted as the “master,” so it has the ability to assign courses down the road. The Sandboxes add-on allows users additional sandboxes so they may safely experiment with changes in various environments. These sandboxes are usually used to test account customizations, team structures, course designs, and others. Lastly, there is the migration services add-on that allows users to implement Litmos quickly using establish practices. Services include transferring learner completion history into Litmos, importing users and courses, and others. Interested users will need to contact the vendor for a custom quote for prices of all add-ons.

It is a good fit for any software environment because it can easily be integrated even with previous LMS software. Knowledge and information from other sources may be imported into the software and users are able to create courses specific to their needs, or even combine multiple courses to create an efficient and effective learning path. Litmos is also mobile-friendly, so learners are able to make use of the software even outside of their office. Instructors are given many capabilities to stay on top of their lessons so that they gain full control of what happens in and out of the virtual classroom, and in case of any concerns, full email and phone support are available in all pricing plans.
