Schoology is a learning management system that allows users to customize courses, assessments and lessons. Educators can use courses or groups to share digital resources, create interactive lesson templates, assign Google or One Drive assignments, and use/create common assessments. There are many built in apps and programs. Pages are customizable, using text, embeddable links, icons and more.
Building interactive pages isn't intuitive. Many teachers who do not have "techy" skills are intimidated. When using this product with young K-5 students, courses and pages need to be very visual. While it is not hard to do, teachers don't always have time or patience to "figure it out."
Schoology is the launching pad for all K-5 assignments and lessons. It is our communication with students and parents.
I like that it is an all in one, place where students can use technology to learn and grow. I like PowerSchool and Google integrations. I like the recording features and the ability to self-grading features.
I wish that Schoology had a search feature. I also wish that zoom could be added like Conferences, as an app. I also wish that there were some way that a screen recording/ picture in picture. (like Facetime).
Work
Schoology is a Learning Management System that is efficient to use and an effective way to create an additional learning space for students. It is easy for students to use and very adaptable to the needs of educators.
The interoperability with other utilities through LTI is wonderful ,but still are some bugs to work out.
Schoology helped us address differentiation in the classroom, formative assessment, using data to inform our practice, and to meet the needs of all learners.
We like using Schoology in our 1:1 district because the teachers find it incredibly easy to use. We do not want to waste time as administrators on training our teachers on how to use the software; we want it to be intuitive and easy to pick up immediately. Schoology is very responsive to customer needs and listens to our feedback as a District.
I would love to have the opportunity to schedule announcements or updates to students.
We are using Schoology in grades 3-12. All teachers are required to use it for their classes. We also have built hybrid and cyber courses for our high school students in Schoology.
Schoology has been an excellent resource that we have implemented in our high schools. It is user friendly, very personalized, and highly effective in allowing educators to inform, instruct, and assess students in variety of ways and formats.
Some of the newer assessment functionalities do not perform in the same ways that the older and still accessible assessment functions do, which leads to confusion and irregularities.
I have been using Schoology for teaching high school students and creating blended learning courses where students can access course materials and learn not only while at school, but also from remote locations that otherwise were impossible .
Schoology is an LMS that is one of the few products that is K-12 appropriate. Many LMS's are geared for secondary and post secondary students. You do have some products specifically made for elementary, but Schoology reaches them all. Schoology is really intuitive and is set up very similar to a popular social media platform. It is easy to navigate for both students and teachers. It was easy to teach the teachers in my district how to use it. It has increased student engagement ten-fold.
Although Schoology is amazing, they have a tendency as of late to release features too early. The year they release assessments and it was honestly not ready to be rolled out. They also have this system for recommending changes and new features, but the problem there is that many times educators consider things a problem and Schoology considers it a feature request. Overall Schoology has been great and the company for the most part listens as we complain. This has been a rougher year, but they seem to be back on the right path.
We use Schoology as our LMS. We are a one to one district and it allows us to use our technology in meaningful ways. It engages students and gives them a voice.
I like this program in that I can enter grades, and students can see what their grades are and what tasks they do not have. I like being able to contact the parents of my students to show them what we are doing and how they can do it at home.
I'm having problems getting old documents, actions and ratings, which I sometimes archived.
This platform is quality, good and simple. If teachers know that they will adhere, they will invest in learning how to use it and introduce it into their classes. I can quickly and easily get information about people's teams and interact with them, even when we can not find the time to meet face to face. The exchange of resources became much easier when our school invested in this platform.
Schoology allows all of our classes to operate on the same platform which is nice for the students. This product has very user-friendly for both teachers and students interface. The free iPhone, iPad, and Android apps work great. Students find this program easy to use. It is also easy to make comments on students' papers, almost too easy. The learning curve to use this product is relatively quick.
It is hard to get stuff set up so that students cannot use the 'Find' function to locate information on their open note quizzes and tests. Also, I find uploading graphics/ videos aren't as simple as they could be.
Our company of 100+ peoples has been using the free version for few years and it is still working great. The main things the free version lacks is in the area of custom branding, administrative permissions, high-level analytics, video conferencing, various integrations, and open APIs. Each of our instructors sets up their own course and students can log in and take our courses from anywhere they have Internet.
I like to support my students and evaluate their training no matter where I am in the room or outside. Schoology has allowed me to create educational playlists and sequential learning modules that regularly support and challenge my students. This is with me the students better control the way, pace, time and place of training. I would advise you to talk with other teachers to get innovative ideas on how to introduce Schoology into your own class. Other teachers gave me some unique ideas that I would not have thought of myself.
I really have nothing to deny to say about the software. Many teachers in our school had a problem when we already conducted a full check in our school during the hiring process. It was like a breach of confidentiality.
This helps create a framework for self-study that benefits the learner across the range of abilities. This allows students to continue working even if one or two students are destructive, since they do not need to wait for direct instructions. It also helps students who are not involved in the work.
As the person who is responsible for training on technology tools, I really appreciate the ease of use for Schoology. When I was in the classroom, I loved the use of assignments and assessments, the fact that I could easily manage my classrooms online presence really increased my personal productivity.
This one is really hard. I know they are currently working on updating the user interface which is needed. The current platform looks very similar to what I used in the classroom 4-5 years ago, a refresh will help.
Schoology provides a reliable platform for all student activities. Content, Assessments, Submissions, Discussions, Grade Recording, and ePortfolios are among the many things that students and staff can utilize to streamline their course delivery. It allows students the ability to work anywhere and at anytime. It also is a wonderful way to communicate with parents, students, and faculty. The groups features, resources, and amazing technical support team makes it a valuable teaching tool.
If I could improve anything about Schoology would be to not be reliant on Adobe Flash. It makes it increasingly difficult when recording audio and video. Otherwise, there is very litte that I don't like.
Our district uses it from k-12 grade for our course content, whether it be curricular or supplemental materials. We use it for staff updates and all staff resources (schedules, discussions, polling questions, faculty meetings). It is also being utilized for fully online teaching modules for our staff development.
For Schoology, I like the fact that it is super easy to use, whether you are a seasoned teacher that uses a lot of technology in the classroom, or someone who is new to teaching or educational technology. I also like how it links up and connects with other types of educational technology available online.
I dislike the fact that Schoology doesn't have an innate password option to lock assignments tests from student viewing.
+A huge community of teachers and learners looking to sharing their experience and support one another in the usage of the platform.
+A recognisable user interface which makes the learning curve for new users simple and intuitive.
+Superb flexibility to create bespoke learning environments for teachers and learners.
- Some limitation of iframe embed due to the HTTPS protocol requirement. Use of HTML code editor often strips the inclusion of more advanced features such as Java functions.
- Limitation toe badge and gamification of learning.
- LTI integration not fully functional, relying on apps developers to plug the gaps.
The Archbishop of York Youth Trust has been running social action awards for over 5 years throughout the north of the UK. However, our vision was to allow the award to run by any school internationally. After a comprehensive analysis of LMS and VLE platforms, we settled on Schoology. The platform we chose needed to allow for excellent communication, a superb facility to deliver excellent bespoke content and equally as important the facility to collect both teacher and student evidence. We needed a platform we could lock down where needed and open up if required. Schoology ticked all out specific boxes.
The ability to personalize students learning and engage students in teacher created content. The ability to embed various other tools into Schoology using the LTI integration app works wonders. There are so many tools teachers use (such as Quizlet, Google Apps, Poll Everywhere, NPR Radio, Thinglink, etc.) that it can get cumbersome sending students to all of these sites. The ability to embed these tools into Schoology content/materials helps mitigate distractions and create a one-stop-shop for the class.
I can honestly say there isn't anything I dislike. Some things I'd like to see: The ability to auto-award badges based on submissions/grade. I'd also like the ability to individually assign folders to students. As of now, you can only individually assign each material which is tedious when students miss an entire unit of work.
To help manage students and track their work submissions district wide. To help foster teacher creativity and innovation in designing their own content. I personally used Schoology in the past when I was teaching HS English to create a gamified, self-paced, self -drected classroom experience. Now, working as a Staff Developer, I use Schoology to create personalized professional development for teachers using the gamification model I used in my classroom.
I am currently using Schoology in an elementary school. I love how Schoology creates a safe environment for my students. It enables teachers to receive work and provide feedback to students. In addition to assignment submissions, students can engage in discussion with their peers.
I wish Schoology had automatic badging with their assignment and test/quiz/assessment environment. However, Schoology is always updating and improving.
I have been using Schoology with about 350 students. It solved the issue of trying to get 350 third to fifth grade students on a variety of websites. Schoology serves as my central hub for the classroom and replaces my class website. It also allows students to work at their own pace on units by completing unit goals and assignments whether they are at school or home.
