"lynda.com is the best way to learn new software"

// Graphic Designer at Anthony Garcia

What do you like about Lynda?

I used to buy a lot of software books. Everytime Adobe released the new version of any of their apps I'd have to buy a new book because a bunch of stuff would change. Then I got a subscription to lynda.com when I was in school, and that changed everything. First of all, learning from videos was much more engaging. I was always pissed at the writers of the books because they would never get to the point. Just give me bullet points already! Lynda trainings are comprehensive, transcribed, searchable, and easy to refer back to. If I ever think "how do I do that one thing...what was it called?" I can go to the training and within a couple clicks pinpoint the lesson and rewatch the specific skill I was trying to master.

What do you dislike about Lynda?

What do I dislike? Man. Nothing, I don't think...oh wait, yeah, there is one thing. I don't like how the search results show up — there is too much stuff. If I do a search for "Wordpress" it's a little overwhelming to get 15 pages of results with every mention of wordpress throughout the whole library. You can narrow the search of course, and I always find what I'm looking for, but I have a twinge of fear that I'm missing something good if I don't go through all the results. You don't know what you don't know, you know?

What have you been using it for and what problems did Lynda solve?

I use lynda.com training to learn new software, keep up to date on the changes to software I have been using for years, and to keep up to date with best practices for design and business. There is so much on Lynda, from simple stuff like facebook or email, to complicated stuff about coding for developers. I use Lynda to learn just about everything nowadays, and I recommend it to everyone looking to learn software.
