Software Description:

Oculyze creates custom solutions for image analysis. With our hand-held microscope and image recognition service, we enable you to take a microscopic image and get a result within seconds, wherever you are. No expensive equipment or specific expertise required!

Oculyze developed a hand-held microscope with high magnification (~400X), it allows visualization of objects <10µm. The prototype consists of a removable optical module, a smartphone, an application and a connection to the server hosting the image analysis software. The optical module is attached to a smartphone and the magnified pictures are visible through the app on the screen. The prototype then sends the image using WLAN or cell phone data to the server that analyses the picture using advanced computer vision techniques and returns the result within seconds. All images are processed and saved in the cloud. The device is handier and more affordable than conventional microscopes or cell counters.

The device can be used for any microscopic analysis up to 400X. Applications range from industrial monitoring to a point of care diagnostic tool for blood analysis (e.g. malaria detection in rural parts of Africa)

The first application is a quick and easy analysis of brewer's yeast, with a special focus on the needs of craft breweries. This application is used as a technical and financial proof of concept before venturing into other markets. We currently automatically determine the concentration (yeast cells/ml) and the cell-viability (using methylene blue staining). Additionally, a contamination alert for unwanted microorganisms is currently in development. Our device is 10 times faster and 10 times cheaper than the competition. Finally, the Meta-analysis of all customer measurements (in development) allows quick recognition of trends and makes it clear when an intervention is necessary.
